5.0 out of 5 stars Well-suited for novice Buddhists, March 21, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Heart of Prajna Paramita Sutra With Verses Without a Stand and Prose Commentary (Paperback)
The Heart Sutra is one of the most famous Buddhist sutras. In a conversation between two of the Buddha's disciples, the essential aspects of the Perfection of Wisdom texts are conveyed. Freedom from suffering is linked to the sudden realization that everything exists because of causes and conditions. The line-by-line commentaries by Hsuan Hua are very helpful towards understanding sanskrit words- prajna, paramita, etc- and the principles of the text. Because the Heart Sutra is very short, it is excellent for beginning students.
