5.0 out of 5 stars Buy the 2nd edition!, September 12, 2005

The potential buyer/reader needs to know that "Prakruti: Your Ayurvedic Constitution" is the first edition. The significantly revised second edition is titled "Prakriti: Your Ayurvedic Constitution" (Prakriti with two i's, not Prakruti with a u). While it is instructional for the scholar to read and note the differences between the two editions, I recommend the second edition to the first time buyer/reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent health guidebook, June 15, 1998
This review is from: Prakruti: Your Ayurvedic Constitution (Paperback)
This book got me started on eating appropriately for my body type. My energy level began to increase once I stopped "poisoning" myself. I also gained insights into why I/my body acts the way it does. Thanks, Dr. Svoboda!

5.0 out of 5 stars Accessible and Deep Introduction to Ayurveda by a Western Physician and Graduate from an Indian College of Ayurveda, December 16, 2010
By

This review is from: Prakruti: Your Ayurvedic Constitution (Paperback)

"Prakruti" was recommended to us by a Sri Lankan ayurvedic physician. His own copy was full of comments. He used it to explain the original texts in Sanskrit to us Westerners. We immediately read it eagerly.

With this book you get a solid introduction with the eyes of a western physician and a complete college level ayurvedic background. Great! And maybe sometimes a little over idealistic as is often found in converts. The western medicine is sometimes a bit dated in line with the publication date of this book. Therefore not every analogy in western medicine is still a good one, but the analogy still improves understanding.

The second edition Prakriti: Your Ayurvedic Constitution is extremely close in text to this edition. I do like the printing of the illustrations in this edition better.

In total this is the best introduction I have found so far and I do heartily recommend it.
