I liked this movie because it is a Christian film, and because it has a good message. I especially liked the ending. It is completely clean I would reccomend it to anyone who likes clean Christian films with important messages.I could watch it with any aged member of my family, and I think that they would all enjoy it. Although teens and tweens might be the most interested in it because the main characters are mostly all teenagers. I am not a teenager though, and I liked it a lot. It is supposed to be scary and it might be to some people who are easily frightened, or perhaps someone who has found themselves in a similar situation. Don't judge it based on other horror movies you have seen because even though it has a scary theme it really isn't meant to just be a way to scare you. The story has a point to it. And if you like it you will like it becasue of the message and not because you thought it was scary. I got the impression that they used real people instead of professional actors, and they filmed in real places and not on sets. It's said to have been based on real events, which would be kind of awesome if the story really did happen. I really enjoyed this film and am looking forward to seeing Pray 2: Lost in the woods.

SUSPENSFUL,
By
This review is from: Pray (DVD)
This is a suspensful film, but the acting is a little bland. It wasn'tbelievable. No one around 5 minutes after the mall closes? How did all the employees get out that had to close up? I did love the "miracle" ending though. I DO believe that in a situation such as this, God most assuradly can make something happen when all others say it is impossable.

A Very Good Movie,
By Clay Naylor (Greensboro,NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pray (DVD)
Pray was such a great film to watch. As you can see, I've given this movie 5 out of 5 stars for many reasons. Since I've given this movie 5 stars, I believe I should have five reasons for this.1. ORIGINAL: This movie was one of a kind. Now days, it's hard to find a movie that isn't a remake of other films. It was nice for once to watch a scary movie without knowing what was going to happen. 2. MESSAGE: Every good movie has a good message or story to it. In this case, Pray had a great story about a girl named Madison. A girl being raised in a time where Hollywood decides what is pretty. The message is that weight doesn't define what is pretty. I thought that this was great advice for teenagers. 3. CHANGE: It was nice for once to actually watch a scary movie without be turned away with what Hollywood thinks is scary now. The Director of this film goes back to the basic of what makes a scary movie. 4. PERFORMANCE: The acting in this film was great. Madison and many of the other characters draw you into this story. Pray actually makes you care about the characters in this film. This was a big plus for me because there has been numerous films where characters are never established. 5. FUN AND ENTERTAINING: This movie was a lot of fun to watch and will keep you on the edge of your seats. The end is bone chilling but leaves you with a powerful message that GOD CAN OVERCOME ANYTHING. If you watch this, you want regret it.

And again...,

Pray steals from Halloween, Scream and any other slasher film you can think of. Just there's not blood or killing so then it's really not a slasher film then...Anyway, the acting is bad, the dialogue is ridiculous and unrealistic. The plot is just lame. Trapped in a mall with a killer, right? Well, trapped in a mall with a killer for like 15 minutes. Don't let the previews fool you, our lead herione is in the mall with the killer for only 15 minutes. The rest of the movie is setting up for that climax of supposed suspense. The villian can some how move with utter stealth and go undetected. He can move faster than most humans and he can pick any lock. He's superman basically. He can also take a brick to head and sleep it off for a minute or two and get back up and keep going. Bottomline: This is a nice try but not close at all. If you want to reach kids through film you need to be original and not copy slasher horror films. Kids relate to real life grit and raw painful situations, not being trapped in a mall with some Scream reject killers. Why is that Christian led the way in music, literature, and art in centuries past but now we take our cues from the secular culture and try to make clean, Christian "alternatives"? That's harsh, I know but almost all of the other reviews are glowing and I need to balance it out. This movie is just plain bad. The bright side is that its not an End Times thriller... The only real positive was that the lead was not stick thin. She was of a thicker medium build with brown hair which I thought was awesome. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and not just stick thin and blonde (no offense to anyone stick thin and blonde, you know what I'm saying).

Loved it! Fun, clean, alternative to secular slasher flicks!,

This is an excellent film! I am a Christian educator and I am so thrilled to have a heart pumping Christian film to hold my teens attention. Plus, the film company provides a Bible study to go along with it.

Run...Hide...from this movie,

Sometimes a movie could have been good, but it just misses the mark. If only the budget had been higher, the acting better, etc. This is not that movie. Supposedly based upon a true story(which I was interested enough in to watch all the DVD features...nothing more than a passing reference), this movie has enough plot to fill out 7 minutes, and it pads it out with 65 minutes of filler. The acting of the lead is decent, but everyone else is pretty awful. The scares range from dumb to cheesy, and most of the "thrilling" bits are direct steals from John Carpenter's Halloween. As far as budget issues go, the filmmakers needed to realize their limitations and not shoot 90% of the movie at night if they can't afford to light it well enough to be watchable. It is literally impossible to tell what is going on in most of the scenes in the movie. Don't waste your time or money on this one. |
