This review is from: Pray for Snow: The History of Skiing in Southern California (Paperback)
This is an interesting book on the earlier skiers in Southern California (mostly in the early 20th century). Did you know that ski jumping at Big Pines (Wrightwood) was the most popular venue in the 1930s? That skiers would race down the slopes of San Gorgonio in minutes? The book has lots of pictures and maps to follow the story. Lots of interviews with early skiers. Well worth getting if you're interested in our skiing past.

Talks how skiing has grown & changed in Southern California. I love the photos of resorts & things that have come and gone. The title is so appropriate: so many SoCal resorts have disappeared because of lack of snow and therefore lack of money, not to mention environmental concerns. Fascinating read, I got it for Xmas and haven't been able to put it down. I wish it would've had some color plates, but the B&W photos are nice too. Well written and thorough.
