scholarly and enlightening,

This review is from: Prayer From Alexander To Constantine: A Critical Anthology (Paperback)
With short, careful articles from competent scholars on Jewish, Greek and Christian prayers, well footnoted, and carefully conceived, this volume belongs in the library of pastors and spiritual directors, professors and practicioners of prayer in any tradition influenced by the Hellenistic world. The messy roots of Christian spiritual practices are here, as well as the roots of many modern spirituality movements, whether they see themselves rooted in ancient traditions or not. For anyone interested in the larger prayer tradition that surrounds the formation of the New Testament, Kiley's anthology will be a tremendous help.
