Power of prayer, or power of prayer in a believer's life....,
By Shari Berti (B.C., Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Power of Prayer in a Believer's Life (Christian Living Classics) (Paperback)
Spurgeon goes straight to the heart of the issue before you even open the book. He explains to the reader in no uncertain terms what God requires of His children and what He is willing to bestow upon them for their obedience. Spurgeon is a timeless writer although at times (most!) he makes for some very intense reading. I have read other solid books on prayer but this is the best.

The Prince of Preachers on Prayer,
By
This review is from: The Power of Prayer in a Believer's Life (Christian Living Classics) (Paperback)
Charles Spurgeon not only preached on prayer but he lived it. Lewis Drummond, in his biography of Spurgeon, commented that Spurgeon was ever in communion it seemed with his Lord. Spurgeon believed 1 Thessalonians 5:17 that Christians are to "pray without ceasing." He believed Mark 11:22-25, that true prayer can move mountains. Charles Spurgeon believed in prayer because he believed in the sovereignty of his God.
This short collection of Spurgeon's sermons on prayer will offer you a glimpse into the heart of this man of prayer. Indeed, Spurgeon's church, Metropolitan Tabernacle in London, was a house of prayer. Spurgeon never claimed the growth for himself but to the power of God in prayer. Read this book and get on your face in prayer before a holy and righteous God.

This is the best book I have read on prayer. It also puts God in his rightful place. I have given a number of these books to friends. It has helped me in my prayer life to understand more about prayer and even God.

The most influential book on Prayer I have read.,
This review is from: The Power of Prayer in a Believer's Life (Christian Living Classics) (Paperback)
Spurgeon's teaching in this book completely changed my perspective on prayer. It's really encouraging and powerful. Spurgeon emphasises that prayer from the heart is what matters and that big and floury prayers to make yourself look 'super-spiritual' mean nothing to God.
He also emphasises that prayer is to be with repetition and it is to be with an expectation of knowing that God will answer, whether or not we like the answer. He also talks about anxiety and prayer, and how Christians should really cast all their anxiety on Him. Prayer, as far as Spurgeon is concerned, is one of the most important aspects of a relationship with God. The edition of the book is in modern language, in that the thee's and thou's are removed. This makes the book more approachable to anyone and easy to read. An extremely helpful and encouraging resource to any Christian.

This is a book that will make you stop and think, underline, review and then go back again because it is so pithy, so full of detail (but not of unnecessary trivia) backed up by Scripture. An EXCELLENT book. Well worth reading and buying ... you will read, and re-read! Marilyn

This is the best book on prayer that I have ever read. I would recommend it to the new believer and the seasoned believer as well. It takes your prayer life to a more committed level. If you haven't read this, do so. Your prayer life will never be the same.

Truly, only C.H. Spurgeon could take a subject that is so dear to us believers in Christ and in his simple and plain way, teach us by the Word of God how to overcome the common hindrances to and in prayer and to persevere in this wonderful privilege that God gives to His children. This book is a small sample of the gifted preacher's sermons on prayer. This is timely for us as Christians to be reminded in these troubling times that we have access to God the Father through Jesus Christ His Beloved Son whenever we want!!
