5.0 out of 5 stars Very Solid - Immaculate, July 5, 2003
By
This review is from: A Wing & A Prayer (Audio CD)
I was so helped by this CD. I was at first hesistant to buy the CD because every time you think about mega-churches and mega-pastors, T.D. Jakes and Potter's House is the most commonly known name. But instead I bought it because the first CD was good, and the second CD was really good, but nothing could prepare me for the third. The CD starts with "The Lord's Prayer", and it is a good intro track, because it shows Bond's creativity and adaptiveness to today's culture. And let me just first give some props to Kevin Bond, he is a great asset to this project. He has worked with Kirk Franklin, Kurt Carr, and the Potter's House Mass, Mississipi Mass, God's Property, and many others to name, and he makes all the projects sound so individual. He is like the TrackMaster or The Neptunes of Gospel, he does his thang well! Often times, we forget about the songs that brought us over, and contemporary adaptation to the scripture was very well done.

"My Life is Available" was good, it is more of a praise and worship song to get service started. However, Potter's House Mass blew me away on "God Be Praised"- they are versatile! It is an anthem, and I like it because nobody really does anthems any more, and if they do them, it doesn't sound right. This was definitely an exception... it is fabulous- and choir directors- get this one in your spirit, because I promise if a few of us get it started, it will flow throughout the nation kinda like Total Praise did. Then "A Path In the Sea" was pretty good, it had that gospel flava, and I like it because the words mean a lot... "walk on water, stand up boldly, don't let your fear have its way. he already knew how he'd see you through, god will reveal a path in the sea." OKAY-- now track #5 - MY FAVORITE!! "Manifest"-- ooh wee! I'm tellin' you, that song can go on forever. Whoever was the lyricist for that song, you got skills... PREGNANT POSSIBILITIES, NOW BIRTH ANEW, TRAVALING TO OBTAIN IT, FOR IT MUST COME TO PASS, I DECREE IT, DECALRE IT AN DCALL IT IN THE SPIRIT, TO BECOME WHAT GOD'S DESGINED ME TO BE! I'm telling you, that one deserves some radio time. And Brenda Whitfield-Ellis... girl you badd! She sang that song like it was written for her! I expected a little more on track six from Myron Williams, he did "Faith" with God's Property, and "When My Season Comes" on the second CD (Potter's House Mass", but it wasn't all I expected. "Send Me to the Nations" and "Not By Power" are both upbeat contemp... VERY GOOD!

Richard Smallwood does what my momma would call, stuck his foot in it! Track 8 - "His Mercy Endureth" It only has a few words, but he did it! The song is written to perfection. It is as good as "Total Praise", and the harmonies are SICK! It amazes me everytime he puts himself out there and writes like this. I want the sheet music to it! "It's Already Done" was good, its different, but it has a nice little groove! And if you are a fan of Chicago Mass, with the upbeat gospel shuffle - let's-go-to-church-stomp-and-clap songs, you'll like "On A Wing and a Prayer"!

Overall this project was well worth the effort. I encourage anyone to buy this. There is some good choir music here, and you will play it over and over again.

Once again, Bishop Jakes gives us a solid release. God is using this man in an awesome way to spread His message. God bless and keep you Bishop Jakes and the Potter's House.

I tell you what, Kevin Bond and Steve Lawrence did an excellent job of producing this wonderful collection of music. If you know Kevin's track record (D. Lawrence-Bible Stories, Potter's House Previous Album, Virtue-"Great Is Thy Faithfulness", Donnie McClurkin, Shirley Caesar, Darryl Coly, etc), then you know anything he touches is gold. Featured artists such as Drea Randle, Israel Houghton, Darwin Hobbs, Jesse Campbell-remember him, and Myron Williams only makes the gold shine brighter. This is a wonderful CD and is much better than their last project which was pretty good itself. They really took it to the next level on this project. The music(awesome band), the arrangements, the lead singers, the lyrics, and the choir vocals are head and shoulders above any choir album that has been put out this year or even last year. I put it up there with Donnie's CD as far as overall experience. I will say that the musicianship on this album on songs like "Send Me To The Nations" and "Not By Power" is far superior to Donnie's. The CD starts off with a rousing rendition of "The Lord's Prayer" and is beautifully led by Lady Joy Hill. Darwin Hobbs does what only he can on "My Life Is Available To You". "A Path In The Sea" and "Manifest" continue the worship experience. They even do a fabulous job on Richard Smallwood's "His Mercy Endureth". Drea Randle puts it down on "It's Already Done". She can sang!! I don't know if I like "God Be Praised" and "On A Wing & A Prayer" yet. I fast-forwarded through these two songs, but with only two songs on the album that I don't like I have to give this CD an A. Furthermore, they only had 11 songs on the album which is a good thing. Some choirs or groups hurt their albums by putting to many songs on the album. With Kevin Bond producing, they made sure that the 11 they had would be more than enough to satisfy the listener. Buy and enjoy. Peace

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful album by the Potter's House Mass Choir, April 8, 2003
This review is from: A Wing & A Prayer (Audio CD)
This album is truly one of the best of 2003. The Potter's House Choir has an unmistakably sound under the most capable guidance of producer Kevin Bond with great messages. Standouts include "God Be Praised", A Pathway in the Sea, "It's Already Done" and the title track.

Get it and be blessed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Praise God!!! I loved it!!!, January 24, 2005
This review is from: A Wing & A Prayer (Audio CD)
I really enjoyed this CD. My favorite songs were DEFINITELY God Be Praised and Manifest!!!! Manifest brought tears to my eyes. Through this song God gave me an AWESOME vision for my wedding!!I'm actually using both songs! My fiancee' and I loved the songs and had to use them. Manifest has such a powerful message, you have to hear it. I would definitely recommend buying this CD. I bought 2 of them so that I could sow into someone else's life who may need some type of yoke broken.
