We attended Christ Community for 3 years before moving back east, and I can tell you that Pastor Jim "walks the talk" when it comes to prayer. I learned more about prayer during services and Mens Breakfasts from Jim, and we grew spiritually more during our time there than at any point before.

Great read and insight - if you are looking to improve your prayer life, and grow closer to God, then this book is "a must".

Most Christians know it is important to pray but in fact, we spend a very small amount of time praying. This is practical "how to" manual full of ways to make prayer an integrated part of our daily lives. It is also encouraging to know there are people like Pastor Nicodem who actual live what they write. This is the is the best book on praying I have read. Read it and do it and you will be changed.

This book is great for anyone who wants to, as the author says, "get on the playing field" of prayer. It is very inspirational, but at the same time filled with practical advice for making prayer a key part of every day. The book is worth the purchase price for the appendix that's filled with names of God and Scripture references that discuss each name--you can use this list to jump-start your time of worship and praise.

This is probably the BEST book I've ever read on prayer. With a market full of "why" to pray... it's about time we got a book on "how" to pray! This is in the "changed my life" section of my library.

Outstanding coaching in a central part of our relationship with God. Its hard to find books on prayer that avoid the twin ditches of ALL testimonial or ALL Biblical theology. Nicodem inspires with solid teaching and personal coaching, esp. impactful in the Patterns section of the book. His one habit of praying up 3 titles/names/attributes of God daily equates to knowing God 1000 new ways per year! Those who prefer constant density over sprinkled analogy may find The God Who Hears (Hunter) or a John MacArthur book more transforming. But Prayer Coach is off-the-shelf useful for a neighbor or for a church Elder! I highly recommend to elevate your own patterns of prayer, then to take another on lap 2 in a mentoring relationship. My only frustration with this book is that it is out of print....and the publisher is balking on plans for a reprint.

We recently had the privilege of having Dr. James Nicodem as our guest speaker for our national bi-annual pastors and spouses conference. Having Jim teach us at our conference was a lot more than just really great. His solid, Biblically rooted teaching on prayer was passionately and believably communicated in practical ways that provided inspiration and encouragement and exhortation...and all that without landing a guilt trip on us. Spending those hours together made the content of his excellent book Prayer Coach, come alive, and also provided practical tools for ministry couples, applicable for their personal prayer lives and that of the local churches which they serve.
