Jesus did both, why don't we?,
By
This review is from: Prayer & Fasting (Paperback)
This simple, yet profound work by Dr. Fletcher offers the clearest and concise argument as to what is missing in our walk with the Lord. Dr. Fletcher has PhD and a ThD degrees, so he was quite capable of writing a deep and lofty exegisis on the subject. Yet instead he chose to allow God to reveal Himself in simplicity through his writing by allowing a couple of personal experiences with prayer and fasting, as well as the scriptures, speak for themselves on the subject. After reading this book, the truly serious Christian will have no excuse for not praying and fasting. After all, Jesus did both, why don't we?

This book is a great book. This book explain the reason behind fasting and praying. Not only that, the author gives some very valid reasons why people stop fasting and praying. He then continue with reasons for praying and fasting. Overall, very important for those who wish to seek God's face. It use the Bible a lot to help us understand.

This book is excellent for explaining the necessity of prayer and fasting in our daily spiritual lives. It demonstrates how fasting goes hand in hand with prayer and how we, as a nation, really neglect fasting. This book is definately a must for your library if you are interested in learning more about prayer and fasting.

This is the best book that I have read on fasting! I never heard of Dr. Fletcher until a cousin advised me of this book. It was truly a great read for me. I refer to it on a regular basis. If you are looking for a book to read on fasting that is sure to move you in the right direction, then this is the one!

I had the opportunity to come across this book by way of a book dicussion at my church. What a blessing to have the opportunity to read it. The book is packed full of wonderful testimonies that glorify GOD during times of fasting and prayer...and just what fasting and prayer can do in your life. I enjoy the way the author expresses his thoughts and the outlay of the book. I chuckle with some of the Sister's from my church about the "food god" (read the book). It is more than a book about fasting and prayer, but a book that reminds you of the power that you have when you exercise these two spirtiual disciplines. TO GOD be the GLORY.Thank you Dr. Flectcher for a wonderful read.

I've seen better.,

This review is from: Prayer & Fasting (Paperback)
This book had good intent, but not enough reality. Prayer and fasting are important parts of Christianity, but there are better ways to do it. The author is pompous, and has a "you should do this, because I do it and I am a better Christian than you" attitude. There are many other books out there about prayer or fasting or both, and they are much less ostentatious. (To paraphrase a quote from Anne Lamott: The only difference between God and this author, is that God never thinks He's this author.)
