1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
This book was dull and tedious at best. It bored me, frankly. And it came off as pretentious.

Definately buy this book, you will read it time and time again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful insight this Christian needed!, November 1, 2003

Mr. Gividen has brought us insights that challenge us to have a closer walk with our Creator. The breakdown of the content in this small, simple prayer has caused me to take a closer look at how I daily live. He has given anyone that reads this book an excellent guideline on seeking God's will and purpose in their lives. The analogies in each chapter gave me a better understanding of the points being made. This book has been a blessing to me personally, as well as those I encounter, as I put into practice these wonderful dynamics.
Job well done Kenn!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Deeply Insightful, November 10, 2002
By
This review is from: The Prayer of Hannah (Hardcover)
Read this book and you'll be able to tell the author has practiced what he writes about. If the Bible is God's love letters to His people, The Prayer Of Hannah is an instruction manual for how to write back, so to speak. Thanks Kenn Gividen for opening your God-seeking heart to us and sharing the secrets of a life led in pursuit of the highest.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of my favorite Bible stories, September 16, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Prayer of Hannah (Hardcover)
I've always loved the story of Hannah, so I was thrilled to see that someone had published a book on her prayer, which is about living a life humbly attuned to God's will.
Well written in a "folksy" but simple style, Mr. Gividen casts a wide net with this little book, as it would be appealing and easily understood by even a very young person with good reading skills...I kept thinking as I read it, how I would have enjoyed this book in my youth.

This small, sturdily made volume has a good layout, nice paper, and a font size that's much appreciated by my sometimes tired eyes.
The chapters are well thought out and organized, and I especially like the contrasting terms...the examples of "trusting vs. tempting" in Chapter 2, the "preparational vs. punitive" stages of "brokeness" in Chapter 3, and "switchblade or scalpel ?" in Chapter 9. The analogy of the ketchup packet is priceless, and I was very moved by the final chapter.

I'm giving this the highest rating, because I think Mr. Gividen succeeded nicely in his goals with this book, and I hope it reaches a large audience.
I'd highly recommend it as a family book to read and discuss together...it would make a great teaching tool, and though it helps to be familiar with the Bible, and have one handy for the notes at the end of each chapter, Christians and non-Christians alike can benefit and learn from Hannah's example, as it expresses universal truths.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Thought it was very helpful, November 1, 2003

Mr. Gividen is a gifted writer, and the Prayer of Hannah is a great help to anyone who wants to grow closer to God. I like the fact that the book is about making God happy, which is the way to blessing in life.
I have read a lot of books, both Christian and otherwise, and I can say that the Prayer of Hannah is written with both insight and humor, and is a great exposition of that beloved Bible story.
Growing closer to God is sometimes hard. We need to get out of our comfort zone and make some sacrifices. But when we do, the blessings do come to us, and then there will be rewards in heaven on top of that. Serving God is thus a pleasure, and Mr. Gividen helps us to remember that fact.

4.0 out of 5 stars WISE WORDS IN THE TRADITION OF "PRAYER OF JABEZ", October 7, 2002
By
This review is from: The Prayer of Hannah (Hardcover)
Ken Gividen's small but often profoundly moving book is one of many similar works produced after Bruce Wilkinson's wildly successful "Prayer of Jabez" was published a few years back. Gividen's book is my favorite though of all previous books (including Wilkinson's) which have been published in this vein.

I found Gividen's examples and analogies especially insightful and applicable to my own life and experience thus far. "The Prayer of Hannah" has the ability to often touch the reader on an emotional, personal and practical level without getting bogged down in a dry over-analysis of scripture (not to imply that it is lacking in Biblical support or references.)

It has certainly encouraged and inspired me to have a deeper conversation with my creator and to learn to pray more boldly without selfish motives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surrender to God what is his, February 28, 2003
By
Joyce D Annese (Bunnell, Fl United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Prayer of Hannah (Hardcover)
Thuis was the best book I have ever read on the subject of surrender, peace, love, and how to acheive all of these with just one thing, surrendering to God. Render unto God what is God's, and render unto yourself that what is God's. Hanna had the right idea, not just to ask for God's help in getting thing's for ourselves, but to also first give to God what he has so genously given to you, and give back to him until the day you leave this earth that he created. Hanna gave her son that she waited for all her life, and never thought she would have, but she wanted to glorify God and she gave her son to him, and he glorified God by serving him all the days of his life, and hisname was Samuel. This writer will keep you interested in the book, and you will not want to put it down once you start.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best I've read - a real eye-opener, June 10, 2004
By
This review is from: The Prayer of Hannah (Hardcover)
I was immediately captivated by this book. Each chapter begins with an illustration which ties right into Kenn's point. He paints pictures in your mind with the descriptions of these illustrations. The anaologies he draws from these are amazingly relevant and thought provoking. I took more notes from this book than any other. God used this book in a special way as it seemed like each chapter was designed for the day I read it. I look forward to reading more of Kenn's books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Authentic, Real, and to the Point......Character Changing, July 22, 2005
This review is from: The Prayer of Hannah (Hardcover)
I had this book on my shelf for a long time but could never bring myself to read it until recently. And now that I have picked it up, I have had more insight given to me through dreams, prayer and reading this book than I had ever imagined. I am learning things not only about a different way to pray, but about myself as well. I learned how selfish I am when it comes to spending time alone with God. I am very giving when it comes to material things but God is a jealous God and wants you all to Himself. So now, I have come back to the realization of knowing that I need to trust Him, obey him more, and put my hope and faith in God more than man. God is my answer, not myself. I even had revelation given to me about my recent job and how frustrated I was getting on my job because I wanted to do a certain task on my own during the training period but couldn't. And God showed me....It's NOT about YOUR will---it's about MY Will. And I had to really stop and think about that. God is right....He is always right. And so from that point on, I began humbling myself more and more and it ties all into reading this book. I am half way through right now (7-22-05) but I know that I want to read more character building books.

This is something that the world really needs to get a hold of. This is an excellent book and I would recommend this book to anyone....I have already started telling others about this book and they are just as anxious to get the book now as I am to finish reading the rest.

Keep writing Mr. Gividen----we want more.

Sincerely,

Marsha Fifolt
