Format: Paperback
Pastor Jack's classic book, Prayer is Invading the Impossible, is a well-written expose concerning his belief about the relationship of the kingdom of God and the centrality of prayer. This book is not just about prayer. One will be surprised to find all the references to the kingdom of God and God's awesome purposes for believers today. There are ideas about prayer, praying, and being a person of prayer. There are also practical tips and stirring discourses regarding prayer. Although you and I would probably find things we disagree with, it is a great book. I was a little nervous that is would just be another boring devotional book on prayer, but it is far more than that. It is excellent. It will get your batteries charged!

Simply put this is one of the best books on prayer and especially warfare that I have read. Pastor Jack knows this subject well. It is exciting to read how God has given us all a position in Him that can affect real change using the weapons we have been given and learning to stand in faith in our Lord. I recommend this to every Christian who is serious about their prayer life and their relationship with The Savior. In fact the copy I am reviewing is one I bought to give to a friend.

For Christians seeking some depth on the subject of prayer, this is an excellent resource. I purchased it because it was actually quoted from time to time in another study I'm doing on intercessory prayer. I wasn't disappointed.

Hayford writes with such insight, tender understanding and a strong Biblical foundation about the power and privilege of prayer! This book helped me believe God's promises to me, to believe God is for me, and that truly, nothing is impossible with God! It helped show God's heart of love for me, and encouraged my faith to believe God!

This is a great book to give to someone struggling with a life-threatening illness, or just for personal encouragement and understanding of how to pray! If you have a group Book Club study, this would be a great one!

If you are looking for reasons why your prayers are not answered as you would like, this book will help you understand the aspects of prayer that may have been left out of your training. Make no mistake, there are traditions within the Christian community that we all except as "the truth", when they are not. If you are willing to be open to new revelation, then this book is a good place to start. Wouldn't it be great to better communicate with God about our requests and petitions and see them answered? Dr. Jack Hayford has laid out a "better way". He has written a wonderful guide book to prayer that will remove "the mystery". Read with faith and receive new insight into this very powerful weapon.

Format: Paperback
First published in 1977, this book earns the title of "classic" because of its enduring value for those interested in growing in the spiritual discipline of prayer. Hayford opens the book with a rather jarring claim: prayer is a matter of assault, of binding, of warfare, and of invasion. There is a "violence" to prayer with respect to its power to shatter the gates of hell (Matthew 16:18) and reclaim territory for the Kingdom of God.

What follows in the book is a primer on prayer, both expository in its use of Scripture and practical in its application to the daily life of the believer. Of course, Hayford, a renowned charismatic, cannot address the topic of prayer without mentioning "spiritual language" (speaking in tongues). While glossolalia is not integral to my faith tradition, it certainly is not unscriptural and Hayford excels in presenting a reasoned and respectful defense of its practice, and its role in enriching the prayer lives of those who use it according to its biblical intent.

The book then goes on to address the major categories of prayer, which include prayers of intercession and prayers of supplication. Hayford closes by cautioning the reader against discouragement and presumption in matters of prayer. And it is in this closing section that Hayford is at his pastoral best.

All in all, this short book (~150 pages) is a masterful, easily accessible introduction to the spiritual discipline of prayer from a responsible charismatic perspective. A worthwhile read no matter what your Christian faith tradition!
