The Marywood University Chamber Singers under the inspired baton of Dr. Rick Hoffenberg in their first CD release deliver a sound that is immaculate, ethereal, and full of spiritual striving, striving not only for a state of perfection but also for a more perfect union between humankind and their God. The sacred songs are pure and sublime, being, however, on the somewhat monastically somber side of things. If it's levity you are looking for, you won't find it here; these songs are all about contemplation and beatification. Nor are the secular songs any more energetic though they still possess a certain active synergy in a passive context of emotional anticipation and expectation. They speak to the soul at the expense of the carnal desires of the psyche with the exception of the track "When I Found You" where the male and female soloists carry the day with sublime jazziness. This first release by the Marywood University Chamber Singers beautifully showcases their celestial voices and how they work to fill a void with spiritual light and musical enlightenment.
