I highly recommend both this book and also for men: Water Of The Word: Intercession For Her

The book opens with a strong foundation of what an excellent wife means biblically and in church history. This reassurance along with an appeal to not treat this merely as a book, but for married women to encourage their husbands by praying with them is an important reminder. I also appreciate the short quotes, by powerful authors, placed throughout the book reassuring and encouraging the reader to commune with God and not make the action of prayer an idol.

As a young unmarried man, I have used Case's counterpart book for about 7 months to bolster my prayer life, specifically for God's work in my life and the sanctification of my future wife. The prayers themselves not only are beneficial for their substance in directing the heart to intercede to our Father on behalf of our spouse, but also provide practical examples of how to turn the Bible itself into prayers. Case notes which passages the prayers are based off of, which help bring to mind the full weight of the context of the passages used.

For the married woman, this book is a must. For the single woman, waiting on God for her future husband, this book gives hope that God is sovereign and to trust him with every aspect of life through prayer. For the unmarried and married man I recommend Water of the Word, not as a book to put on your shelf, but as an impetus to intercede fervently, stir up a passion for God and glorify God as you show your helplessness to change people apart from His power.

I was delighted to receive this book and begin working through it. It has been awesome to see God at work in the life of my husband as I pray these Scriptural prayers over him and to see God working in my own life to lift my husband up above myself and pray for God's best for him. God has spoken to this author and I will be forever grateful for His prompting and for the author being obedient to the One who created prayer. Humbly pray through this book and see how great our God is.

This book is excellent. It would make a great gift for a bride. There is no better way to start a marriage than with prayer. The prayers in this book are based in Scripture. I recommend after reading and praying the prayers in the book, that you open your Bible and read the Scripture references. Great book, a must read/pray.

This is a wonderful Bible based book of prayers. Each one is taken right from scripture. They are uplifting and appropriate for any believer. I plan to give it as wedding gifts to friends & family.

As a newly married wife, I was grateful to receive a copy of this book. Andrew Case takes various prayers from the Scripture and "personalizes" them in a manner that is helpful as I learn to pray for my husband.

For me, the feel of the prayers was very similar to the Valley of Vision... short, concise and rich in theology.

It is designed specifically for wives as they pray for their husbands but is also a helpful resource for anyone seeking to grow in their prayer life.

I would have liked some kind of concordance or reference system by topic, but there is a reference by chapter / verse which is nice.

Overall, its a great book and I would highly recommend it.

Recently, I was given the opportunity to get my hands on a free copy of Andrew Case's "Prayers of an Excellent Wife". I took the book along on a trip to Michigan this past weekend, thinking I would spend a few hours reading and reviewing it. However, when I opened it up, I found little to "read", but much to "pray". This book truly is a book of prayers - prayers of an excellent wife.

The last month or so, I've been using Stormie Omartian's "The Power of a Praying Wife" to pray for my husband each day. I've read the book multiple times in the past few years, so I've just been focusing on praying the prayers at the end of each chapter for my husband each day. I have really enjoyed having this focused time of prayer for my husband, and I have been looking for more ways to pray for him. "Prayers of an Excellent Wife" is a book that was designed just for that purpose!

When we pray Scripture, we know that we are praying in accordance with the will of God. "Prayers of an Excellent Wife" is a book designed to help women pray Scripture over their husbands:

"This book is meant to be a help and guide for that kind of praying. It consists of little else than the Word of God turned "more or less into prayer." And more specifically it is a means toward one part of prayer - prayer for the husband God has given you. We would do well to heed the council of Thomas Manton: 'plead the promise of God in prayer, show Him His handwriting; God is tender of His Word.' Many women have done excellently in this, but may you surpass them all." (From the preface - shared with permission.)

I look forward to implementing the prayers of this book into my regular prayer time for my husband, praying the Scripture-based prayers for him, praying on his behalf. Won't you join me in praying the same for your husband?

Praying for your husband is one of the best ways we can "do him good" as Prov 31:12 instructs. This book is an excellent tool to lead us as wives in biblical prayers, not based on our wants or desires, but based on the Word of God. I feel like it covers areas I wouldn't think to pray over and it also convicts me of areas I need to grow in as well. I would highly recommend it to any wife who has a heart to pray for her husband. It only takes a few minutes and is well worth the investment.

This is the book that, upon opening it up to read, makes you go "hey, haven't I read this before?" And that's because you have - in the Bible.

The short yet dense entries covering nearly page of Prayers of an Excellent Wife are pure Scripture. The words you know and love (and often wish you could recall by memory, when praying) from the history, the poetry, the prophets, the Gospels, and the letters of the Old and New Testaments are woven by the author into edifying, structured prayers that can breathe freshness into your prayer life if you allow.

Interspersed with the prayers, now and then, are prayer-focused quotations from writers and theologians such as Jonathan Edwards, Wayne Grudem, George Mueller, John Piper, Jerry Bridges, and J.I. Packer. These offer food for thought, and contribute to the contemplative momentum the book brings to your quiet time with the Lord.

I recommend this book to anyone looking to strengthen their prayer life by incorporating God's very Word into it. Not only for married women on behalf of their husbands, I've found that this book can be used, and the prayers made your own, by many, including single girls actively waiting on the Lord for a godly mate, and loving sisters interceding for their brothers.

Any one of the prayers included here could be prayed day after day, and yet Case has collected an entire book of them to help give new hope and encouragement every morning.

I find this book very helpful in my quiet time to pray for my husband with more wisdom and spiritual insight. Many times my prayers would grow boring, praying the same things all the time. This helps to keep them fresh, with each new Scripture passage Andrew Case uses to guide us. It is good practice to see how to pray Scripture for anyone. I often broaden it, using the prayers for others as well. It only takes a few minutes to incorporate into your prayer routine, unless you want to expand on it. I often think, if I'm not praying for my husband, who is?

I recommend this prayer book to every wife. One day, while I was praying for my husband, I heard how selfish my words sounded. I want him to be safe and healthy...so he can be with me. I was praying about him, but not for him. When I saw this book I jumped on the opportunity to read it. It has helped me to pray effectively, and selflessly for my husband.

Each prayer is based on a passage from the Bible, and addresses a husband's daily need for God's guidance, protection, and love. I make sure to tell him each day that I have prayed for him. Praying effectively for my husband has helped me become closer to him, and has improved the way we communicate with each other. I could not be more grateful.
