I needed four copies of prayers for the new social awakening to give as door prizes at a women's conference. Since we strive to be green, I ordered used books. They were all in excellent condition as represented so the recipients were happy ,money was saved, and we recycled. I was very pleased with the products and the swift arrival of the books all from different providers.

This book anchors social justice concerns in faith with prayers by many well-known Christian leaders. It also reviews the history of the Social Creeds of 1908 and 2008. Comprehensive and challenging.

Might I suggest a book and an author whose writings and speeches are consistent with creating heaven on earth, for all of us? The author is Henry George, and his best known book was "Progress & Poverty." I would also recommend his book of essays, "Social Problems."

He provides concrete solutions -- and his solutions lead toward economic justice, an end to poverty, a reversal of sprawl and to a more sustainable environment and economy and community.

Is there something in that paragraph you would prefer not to have?

You might also look for some of his speeches -- "Thou Shalt Not Steal," "Thy Kingdom Come," "The Crime of Poverty" and "Moses," to name a few, to get a sense of his diagnosis and his proposal.

Praying is not enough. Enlightening ourselves and working for justice and peace on the earth is vital. Henry George provides the light.
