Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Howe, a freelance writer and PW contributor, provides 52 brief fictionalized vignettes about women, each followed by a heartfelt prayer and an inspirational quote. The book (a hardcover despite the low price) intends to help sustain and encourage women, who are often depleted by their role as primary caretakers. Howe includes pieces about women caring for children, but there are also depictions of women in other protective roles. Examples include a woman who chauffeurs and supports an ailing sister; a widow who assists the elderly residents in her housing complex; a trauma nurse who is overwhelmed with E.R. patients; and a hairdresser who is counselor and therapist to her clients. Howe deals admirably with themes of women's anxiety and exhaustion, acknowledging the difficulties of caregiving while offering hope for Christian renewal.

Review

"Prayers to Nourish a Woman's Heart reminds those of us who occasionally feel inadequate to face the many demands of a busy life that we are a prayer away from tapping into the power of the universe, God Himself."
— Vicki Hitzges, corporate speaker

"With captivating stories of people who face everyday challenges and choices, Michele Howe demonstrates how we can turn our daily needs, emotions, and reactions into a prayer life that is as natural as breathing. The prayers at the end of each chapter demonstrate a practical way we can take our concerns to the Lord and the poignant quotations that follow each prayer summarize the main point of the chapter. If you long for a better prayer life, don't miss this book!"
— Carol Kent, president, Speak Up Speaker Services, international speaker and author

Each short story has a "draw you in" quality and an emotional tone that I had either experienced or witnessed in others. This book shows the real, non-perfect, often frustrating Christian walk of life. Yet the prayers, scripture and quotes put the focus back on the wonderful truth of God's loving care for us. This makes a great gift for a neighbor, friend or relative no matter what their stage in life or maturity in Christ.
