Book Description

What if the problem with the church isn’t what we are doing but rather what we are not doing?

In Prayers from the Pews, Teri Lynne Underwood explores the connection between embracing Scripture, evaluating personal experience, and experiencing the power in praying for your church. Acknowledging the difficulties and short-comings of the “institution of church” while challenging believers to invest in the study of the early church and harness the power of prayer, Teri Lynne brings a voice of hope to the often-hopeless landscape of the modern church experience.

Prayers from the Pews is ideal for individuals seeking guidance in praying for their churches as well as small groups who want to experience the power of prayer in their own congregation. More than another study of prayer, Prayers from the Pews is an invitation to pray.

Features of Prayers from the Pews:

Short chapters with discussion questions
Thirty prayers based on the Book of Acts
40-Day reading guide for Acts

5.0 out of 5 stars All Christians Should Read This Book July 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Teri Lynne Underwood has nailed my heart in her book, Prayers from the Pews.

I've been guilty of criticizing church, and many times I've asked the church to change when it was really my own heart that needed work. Prayers from the Pews is a call to action not for The Church, but for the church--those of us who grace the pews (or chairs, or couch, or kitchen stools)--to get on our knees and beg God to change our hearts, turning them toward His Word, and choosing to humble ourselves and love others more than ourselves. I highly recommend it.

Teri Lynne takes readers on a journey through the prayers of Acts as she shows what is really means to BE the church. She challenges her readers to look first at themselves and ask, "Am I living up to all God expects of me as a church member?" Then she helps you pray for your church, your pastors, the ministries your church does, the community your church serves, and the world your church impacts. I'm a pastor's wife, so I'm in the trenches, seeing all the best and worst of churches. If we would read Teri Lynne's words and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us through the readings from Acts, we would see revival in our churches that would strengthen the Bride of Christ. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Start A Revival! July 11, 2012
By Krissie
Format:Kindle Edition
As one who has struggled lately with what I percieve to be the various shortcomings of the modern day church I found Teri Lynne's book, Prayers From The Pews to be encouraging, convicting and inspiring. It's very easy to sit back in the service and rack up a list of grievances against our church, but Teri Lynne challenges us, as members of the church to become part of the fix, she leads the reader through deliberate prayers on behalf of the church in order to see the church grow and become what it was intended to be. What we forget so often is that our prayers while having an outward effect, more often have an inward affect by changing the hearts of the one who prays. This subject is near and dear to my own falliable heart and I cannot reccomend this book enough. This would be a great study and activity for a church group, as well as it is perfect for individuals to engage in alone.

Read this book, pray for your church and start a revival from the pews!

*I received a copy of this book for free from Teri Lynne, she didn't ask me for a positive review. This is my honest opinion, no furhter compensation has been received for my thoughts here.

Well written, forthright, and enabling. This author makes you view praying in a different way for everyone but especially for your Pastor, Church, and Church leadership teams. I recommend this to anyone who is SERIOUS about praying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Teri Lynn is an encouraging person March 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Teri Lynne is a God gifted encouraging person. Her father and grandfather were pastors. Some PK' s become cynical unless there is someone in the home to encourage them. She must have been brought up in a God centered family that loved and nurtured each other. I know she supports her husband's ministry because I worship with them.

I thought the book would be helpful in learning more about HOW to pray, but it took a different view and made me think about things that I had not thought of before. Thank you. I liked the book.

More About the Author

I'm a Midwestern girl happily married to a Southern man. We're making our home in North Alabama with our (growing-up-way-too-fast) daughter and a very droopy Basset hound. In my spare time I love Auburn football, watching Downton Abbey or Big Bang Theory (talk about a split personality!), and spending time with my family.

I'm learning a fresh perspective on life these days--exploring the way of living big without missing the small. I write my almost-daily words of encouragement at a little white desk and study in a big not-so-white-anymore chair in between loading the dishwasher, putting out the dog, and sitting in the car line. {www.terilynneu.com}

I've developed a slight addiction to social media and love to help others learn to use it well. Understanding the power of words to challenge, encourage, inspire, and educate is a gift ... and I'd love to help you learn to use that gift for your blog, business, or non-profit. {www.terilynneunderwood.com}
