This Book Caught My Eye,
By
This review is from: Prayers of a Young Addict (Paperback)
A lot of books about addiction and recovery come across my desk but this one caught my eye. It is the story of a Christian boy who is addicted to drugs. The right hand pages contain his gripping story in the form of prayers and conversations as he pours his heart out to God. I was taken to the heights and depths of emotions as I read and could closely identify with this young man.The facing left hand pages have the beginning of a prayer and the reader is given space to finish it according to his or her own needs. This makes the book extremely practical and helpful for the reader. The book concludes with a list of organizations that can assist the addict and several pages of "Words of Hope". I highly recommend this book for anyone who may be addicted or who has a loved one who struggles with addiction.

PRAYERS OF A YOUNG ADDICT by Carrie Papa,
By Allen Boyd (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Prayers of a Young Addict (Paperback)
This book caught my attention on the first page and held it until the last page. I did not expect to find a story within the pages of a book of prayers, but the story is what makes this book so interesting. It is a very moving story.Since the book deals with drug addiction, I think it will help a lot of kids to be wary of drugs. I liked the way, the book does not seem to judge the characters in the story or the person reading the book, but rather seems to speak to every one and anyone who has ever wanted to try drugs. One other thing that I found unusual in a book of prayers is the way the book starts a prayer (that is related to what is happening in the story) and invites the reader to add his own thoughts. It really makes the reader think what he would be saying to God if he were in the same circumstances as Michael, the main character in the story. Although I am not a young kid, I found the book to be so magnetic that it was hard to put down. I think teens - surrounded by the drug culture today - will find the book I recommend this book to all young people and their parents.
