Book Description

February 1, 2001

Praying the Movies is a collection of thirty-one devotions that connect movies with the spiritual life of moviegoers. Each devotion contains a passage from Scripture, a description of a scene from a popular film, and a meditation connecting the themes in the scene to the Scripture passage. Also included in each devotion are questions to encourage further reflection, a suggestion for a hymn, and a brief prayer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for small groups or just movie lovers, October 13, 2005

We used this book for a Young Adult Church study group and they loved it not only b/c it was discussing movies theologically and spiritually, but b/c they could miss a session and still be 'in' on the discussion. The book sites old and fairly new movies - classics of all kinds. AND for discussion purposes - it doesn't matter if you see the whole movie or any part of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Valuable for clergy, lay people and students!, May 25, 2001

Having been a subscriber to "Visual Parables" for many years, I was delighted to learn about Edward McNulty's book! His monthly reviews of movies in VP has provided me insight for myself along with being most valuable as a sermon and study resource. I have already used "Praying the Movies" in two seminary courses and with great, enthusiastic responses! Congratulations, Ed. I highly recommend this book for sermon preparations, for seminary studies and for adult Bible study classes. It's filled with love, grace and inspiration!
