Eloi, Eloi,
By
This review is from: Praying the Names of God: A Daily Guide (Hardcover)
There are many devotionals on the market. My favorite is Utmost for His Highest. This one is different but as rewarding and well worth the read. Ann Spangler gets personal with His Highest: El Shadday, Elohim, Adonay in a memorable way. In one chapter the lesson is about Elohim [e-lo-HEEM]- God's name as creator. Here Ms. Spangler gives a scriptural accounting of the creative aspect of God. Each successive week is devoted to then another one of God's names (i.e. Elam: a name apprearing over 400 times which translates as "eternal," "everlasting," "forever."). Each week is broken into 5 short daily lessons to help you meditate on the particular understanding of God. In this regard, you begin to ask yourself the question, "how do we respond when people take the initiative to call us by our name?" I think Ms. Spangler has written a very special book that invites everyone to get to know their God not a little, but a lot better - that is, on a first name basis.

Inspirational, informative, humbling, highly recommended,
This review is from: Praying the Names of God: A Daily Guide (Hardcover)
Every once in a while a book comes along with a deceptively simple title that gives no hint of the much deeper and inspirational thoughts inside. This is one of those books. Throughout the Old Testament God is referred to by various names. Each one represents a specific attribute of God that is particularly relevant to those circumstances. Taken together these names reveal the nature of God and point to ways to see and seek Him as well as understand our relationship with Him. This book is insightful, encouraging, and inspirational while at the same time moving your prayer life up to another level.
Full of Bible references, Praying the Names of God is highly recommended and sure to bring a deeper understanding of God to the reader. The only thing about the book that some may find troublesome is the lack of capitalization on all personal pronouns related to God. While God, Lord, and other references are capitalized, Him, His, and He are not. Some more conservative readers may have a problem with this. My advice to them is to not let something like this cause them to miss a very good book.

It is an awesome daily read allowing you to experience it in your life as you read through it rather than rush your way through it! Very practical, easy read! ENJOY !

Ann Spangler explains the many names of God, revealing countless ways that He speaks to us so that we, in turn, may come to know Him in greater depth. The inherent power in the names of God becomes more real as you pray the names, praising and loving Him for who He is. Because I like it so much, my copy of this book is dog-eared, written in, and generally well-worn.

A Brilliant Guide to Worship,

This review is from: Praying the Names of God: A Daily Guide (Christian Softcover Originals) (Paperback)
My wife and I had already experienced this book through our local library, which limited us to a two-week loan period which, we soon found, was not nearly enough. We had decided to utilise this work in our fortnightly home bible study group meetings this year. We purchased four copies of the standard print version locally for the use of our members, but the large print was not available here in Australia, so Amazon came to the rescue admirably. We cannot praise the book more highly. Ann Spangler has grasped her subject with a sure knowledge of the love of God and His Grace. We also have her "Praying the Names of Jesus" but have not yet managed to delve into it deeply. We look forward to it. "Praying The Names of God" has our highest recommendation for anyone searching for a fuller meaning in their Christian lives when dedicating their lives to God's love and care.

Most believers won't study Hebrew or intense theology of the Old Testament. While this book cannot replace that type of formal education, it is a glimpse into the original language of our scriptures. So, it's valuable for us to read, and a gift to understand.
In a beautifully written devotional, Ann Spangler defines the different names used to reference God throughout scripture. Understanding these names & descriptions cannot help but enrich our personal study of scripture, our prayers, and application in our daily lives. While primarily intended as a guide for daily prayer, this book is also a nice reference - and supplement - to scripture studies. In understanding each name, we receive a better (perhaps new) view of our God. I appreciated the chance to learn titles that have been used to address and refer to God throughout history. I think you will find, like I have, that a new perspective of the One we worship can transform our own prayer, understanding, and outlook.

This is an excellent resource for growing more intimate with God. Scripturally based insights are a help to any seeker of Truth who desires to develop a greater trust in God and His faithfulness. What God says, He will do - He speaks from Who He Is.

Really enjoying it.,
This review is from: Praying the Names of God: A Daily Guide (Hardcover)
I'm doing this as a bible study in my small group and I'm really enjoying learning about God and getting to know him more personally! What a better way to get to know someone than learning their name! The other girls in the group have enjoyed it alot also! It's been such a blessing in seeing how we can relate to our heavenly Father. I would recommend this book to anyone who is serious about learning more about God and growing in your walk of faith.
