How can we really know the heart of God concerning us without prayer? How can we have confidence toward God and His plan and purpose for our lives unless we develop it through prayer? And how could we ever hope to actually live out His will if we refuse to or are lazy in our praying?

The ultimate value in Katie Brazelton's Praying for Purpose is that it engages us in what is arguably one of the most critical disciplines of a Christian's life--prayer. The prayer-per-day format is convenient and provides structure for what can sometimes become an aimless and wandering effort to pray through to an answer from God on a particular topic in our lives. Each day's reading begins with an introduction; provides a modern-day example of a woman who has triumphed, or not, in that day's topic of discussion, includes a targeted question designed to spark honest thought and ends with a short vignette related to a person in the Bible. Finally, the reader is left with a scripture reference to ponder, guided through a prayer and encouraged to identify an insight or action step resulting from that day's reading.

Perhaps including more examples of single women would broaden the appeal, but the stories of contemporary and biblical people who faced the same issues we do today can comfort any woman who may feel alone in her pursuit of purpose, and the confusion and uncertainty which often accompany that pursuit. The questions and space to list action items moves us from inward reflection to outward behavior.

Added bonuses are the special format and activity for Day 60, the classification exercise in Part Two, and the concluding activity which invites each woman to solicit feedback from a trusted friend regarding her responses to all the questions for each day's reading. What a treat!

Praying for Purpose is certainly worth the price on its own, but is even more valuable as a companion volume to the foundational book-Pathway to Purpose(TM) for Women. Well, that is what it is like when you read Katie's books on finding your purpose in Christ and life.
You will love the way she asks questions, shares examples, and stories of real life woman that have walked that path and are moving towards God's purpose.
The days are simple and yet challenging enough to stretch and grow you. You will love the insightful questions that teach you to reach deep inside and apply action to the daily truth!
Coolest thing is at the end, you can get an overall look of what you have learned, and need to see in regards to God's direction in your life!

This book is truly a divinely inspired writing that serves as a guide to women who are dedicated to finding their unique, God-given purpose in life. By using the manual over a 60 day period, God was able to speak to me and open my eyes to the talents and abilities He has blessed me with and to recognize the dreams and passions He has placed in my heart to be of great service to Him. Thank you to Dr Brazelton for being a tool for God to use in this way! This is a highly recommended reading for any woman in search of her place in God's eternal plan.

This devotional is excellent! I have enjoyed the layout which offers biblical examples, as well as everyday life examples and questions for personal contemplation. Dr. Katie Brazelton writes in a way that relates to women in all seasons of life. This devotional can help you press through the distractions and clear out the clutter to see where you've been and where you are at. As you work through each day of the devotional, and seek the Lord, you will discover where you are going, and the purpose He has for you.

Katie's God-given giftedness and creative communication shines brightly in this incredible sixty day prayer experience. In a world filled with confusion and distraction, Katie has created a guide to assist women in developing or enriching their prayer communication with our beloved Pappa God (heavenly Father).


The brief daily readings incorporate stories of ordinary women that God has used to fulfill His purposes in each individual life. Each character has experienced a "divine appointment" with their heavenly Father that has given definite purpose for their life. Once the purpose is discovered God is truly honored and glorified.


Each day recalls a biblical story filled with practical application and insights for each situation be it fear, confusion, crisis, success, road blocks, weakness or strength. We find that God's Word is ageless and always constant.


One will find oneself rushing to the next prayer experience with anticipation and excitement to read the experiences that God has allowed in many different lives. Each experience has definite purpose that the reader can relate to in her individual life.

In Praying on Purpose, you are asked for insights, prayers and action steps. As I read the stories, struggles and sucesses of other women I was amazed at how many insights were there for me.... This book was very inspiriational and a great devotional tool that I will read and re-read..

This book has had great impact on my life. The daily focus helped me find insights I probably would not have otherwise. Simply and insightfully written. Great for changing the direction of your life. Full of penetrating questions that demand an answer. Highly recommended.

This book was a disappointment. I expected guidance through a relationship with God, encouragement in life and relationships. What I got was a step by step method to recognize all my possible shortcomings, my incredibly sinful perceived ways, and lack of submission to the man in my life. There are questions to respond to and most of them left me less than guided and more than a bit angry at the author.

Perhaps this would be a positive purchase for a woman who sees her role as the support of her powerful, God-filled husband. This is not where I am in my relationship with the Lord. My prayer filled life is rich, with submissiveness to God's leadership, not the path outlined in this book. It was a disappointment.

Every day I look forward to the questions that this stirs up, as well as the bible reading and the prayers at the end of the daily passage. This is a great tool for self discovery while searching for life's purpose. I wish I'd found it sooner!
