Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Praying the Scriptures for Your Children is both a "how-to" book and a "feel-good" book of encouraging stories that mothers can use to learn how to pray scripturally for their children. Each chapter focuses on a particular "need" children have, from wisdom and protection to developing specific character traits and strong sibling relationships.

Praying the Scriptures for Your Children offers help for mothers who want to get beyond "God bless Johnny" into deeper and more specific needs. It presents scripture-based prayers and prayer principles arranged around ten key life "needs" of children, and includes ideas for using biblical characters to pray for your children.

Full of heartwarming true stories of answered prayer and meaningful "prayers you can use," this encouraging guide helps mothers pray with confidence, knowing their prayers come directly from God’s Word. Whether during devotions, with a prayer group, or simply while waiting in the carpool line, moms will learn to intercede for their children with a richness and depth anchored in God’s Word and his will.

My copy of this book has so many "dog ears" from places I've marked and highlighted pages. It is just in poor condition because it's been with me to a lot of places ... I slip it in my bag to take with me lots of times, and I've read it in the bathtub many times (one of the few places I can have some quiet time from my three gifts from God!). So my book is worn, has water spots on it and the binding is almost coming lose. But it still works!

I have also bought this book numerous times for friends and baby showers.

One of the most encouraging parts of the book is the scripture prayers at the end of each chapter with fill in the blanks for your child's name. The book is divided into sections - how to pray for your kids' teachers, how to pray for your child in crisis, safety, and how to pray for your child's faith and character. Great stuff.

Many of us know how to say the prayers we were raised on. To often we get in the habit of saying the same prayers and the meanings are almost lost in the memorization. Jodie Berndt has written a beautiful book on how to put incredible meaning behind your prayers. She has done an incredible job of learning the scriptures and using them in a powerful way to talk to God. This book is very inspirational. It is filled with humor, love and a true sense of how we can make our prayers more meaningful and personalized. It teaches us not only how to pray for our children, but also how to pray in our daily lives as well. Bravo! Jodie Berndt!

I'm a mother and grandparent and I truly enjoyed this book. It covers nearly every area of concern that a parent may have for her child. At times, we all repeat the same prayers for our little ones (or adult children) .... keep them safe, comfort them, guide them, etc. This book provides scripture and encourages one to search the scripture to pray by using the actual words from the Bible. When an appropriate verse is prayed, you insert the name of the child you are praying for instead of using just the given pronouns in the verse. So simple, and yet a profound way of praying.

This book has become my number 1 Bible resource. The fact the I can pick a topic by chapter, turn to the end of that chapter and just pop names into the blanks in the verses makes it so easy to pray God's word for my children. I use it for others, too. When I started my moms group at church it was the first book on our list to read. I have heard nothing but rave reviews. It is a truly incredible book.

This has been my best investment as a mom (...) they can all use this wonderful tool to pray for their children AND mine. From the very beginning of this book I learn so much that is so helpful to parenting. How to recognize your child's gifts from God has been so eye opening and I have printed the prayers that pertain to my children and I use them daily to pray for their lives. It has made a huge difference in my daily life just incorporating this into my every day routine. I recommend this book to mothers of all ages and it is even a wonderful gift to give to anyone expecting!!!

This book has literally changed the way I view praying for my children. There is so much to pray for and it's all broken down for you in short chapters with specific scriptures to pray for that topic. If you want specific things to pray for and verses to help guide you...this is the book. It's by far the best book on this topic I've ever read!

Let's go back in time for a minute or two. Back on January 2nd, I realized that Family Matters had a challenge to pray for your kids throughout the month of January. Each day of the month, they were posting a specific prayer item for your kids via the 31 Days of Prayer for Your Children. I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to pursue this habit in praying for my kids using Scriptures. So just before January ended, I stumbled on that came out in 2001 and requested it to review. One February day, I received the book Praying the Scriptures for Your Children in the mail. I was delighted and immediately embarked in new praying habit for my kids.

The book is divided in five important theme for our kids' lives.
Praying for Your Child's Faith - salvation, love God's Word, gifts, and promote God's Kingdom.
Praying for Your Child's Character - wisdom and discernment, servant's heart, kindness and compassion, self-control, diligence and self-discipline.
Praying for Your Child's Safety - physical health and safety, protection, emotional well-being, crisis.
Praying for Your Child's Relationship - with friends, with siblings, with teachers and coaches, with you.
Praying for Your Child's Future - purpose in life, marriage, management of time and money, when he/she leaves your nest.

Each and every single prayer theme contains a chapter on how to pray for the highlighted theme (ex: servant's heart) which will give you example from the author's life, perspectives to consider on the theme and wisdom in how to pray for this specific issue. You will also have prayer principles through the chapter to encourage you to pray specific things about the subject of the chapter.
