5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, April 19, 2010

This review is from: Praying Through Your Pregnancy: An Inspirational Week-by-Week Guide for Bonding with Your Baby (Hardcover)
This book has been such a joy to read! I am having my third child and although I have prayed thru each pregnancy for the health of my baby it is so nice to be able to know what to pray for specifically each week. It has been a joy getting to know Jennifer throughout her journal and has made me laugh at many times because I was having the same thoughts, joys, and fears. I love that she has included scripture throughout the book. It is always so comforting to read the word of God. I will defiantly be recommending this book to other expectant mothers. Thank you so much Jennifer and Carolyn for this wonderful book that truly is an inspiration for all of us.

5.0 out of 5 stars what a blessing, September 30, 2010

I first heard the authors on KLOVE, a christian radio station, and could not wait to get the book. What an inspiration it has been to my prayer life during this special time. I love how the authors describe the physical descriptions of how the baby is maturing but go deeper into a spiritual application. This is an excerpt from week 8 for example. "This week your baby's feet and toes are also beginning to form. I want my children to walk with Christ all the days of their lives, no matter where their feet take them. I want them to know that Jesus is always with them."
It has been such an encouragement to read through the journaling and stories of the author and I love the scripture verses she encourages us to look up and the questions for your own journal entries. But my favorite thing about this book are the Mothers Prayers at the end of each week. I have used these prayers to write some of my own for my sweet baby boy.
I recommend this book with 5 stars to anyone who is pregnant or as a wonderful gift for the mom-to-be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Addition to Pregnancy Library, July 7, 2010
This review is from: Praying Through Your Pregnancy: An Inspirational Week-by-Week Guide for Bonding with Your Baby (Hardcover)
*Please note, I should be a "verified buyer"(purchased through Amazon in June 2010) Amazon, please rectify this (review was interrupted & new page did not have verification notice). Thank you.

I bought this book in faith while trying to conceive. I've already read through the book in advance of my desire to be blessed with additional children in my "old age." I found this to be a Holy Spirit-filled book. It has powerful prayers and scriptures that really bless me. I feel that I am more prepared to embark on this journey, even though I have already have 2 children (I didn't start off motherhood following God, but I am grateful that I will end it doing so). Just the addition of prayer to the childbearing process is such a wonderful change! I have more peace now, no matter what happens. The authors of this book definitely helped create a work that compels one to seek God's face and trust in Him.

Pros:
Easy, enjoyable read
Holy Spirit-filled
Good use of scriptures, journaling & interviews
Thorough prayer for expecting mother and unborn child
Nice hardcover (more worthy for a keepsake)
Good health/nutritional reminders
Not too much "homework"
Powerful testimony at end

CONS:
Length-I would rather have extra writing/journal entries than pages of blank lines for personal journaling (especially to use for subsequent children) (ex. Stormie O has separate workbook for this purpose in "power of Praying Parent" study

I see this as an excellent book to have faith-based discussion groups for women. The scriptures and prayers were a great "jump-off" point to enhance my own prayer time and journaling. It is a good book that leaves the reader wanting more!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ for all mommies to be!, June 3, 2010
This review is from: Praying Through Your Pregnancy: An Inspirational Week-by-Week Guide for Bonding with Your Baby (Hardcover)
I thought I'd be getting a little booklet with a few select prayers in it. Here is what I did get:

1. A week-by-week explanation of what was happening with me and my baby.
2. A very personal journal of the author's own pregnancy...which helped me to appreciate that what I was going through was not uncommon...which certainly saved me from panic attacks :)
3. Meaningful scripture references that applied to pregnancy and motherhood.
4. Places to write down my own thoughts, feelings, fears, preparations.
5. Well thought out prayers to either recite out loud or read to myself (which is a MUST for anyone who, like me, sometimes doesn't know what to say to God).
6. Tips on my (and my baby's) health - food tips, exercise tips, mental health tips - you name it.

While reading this book, I felt like the author was sitting next to me - guiding, coaching, reassuring and best of all - PRAYING. Pregnancy can be scary; it's nice feeling the presence of the Holy Spirit providing comfort along the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! A must read!, November 6, 2010
This review is from: Praying Through Your Pregnancy: An Inspirational Week-by-Week Guide for Bonding with Your Baby (Hardcover)
This book is wonderfully written. I love the journal entries at the beginning, and the bible verses at the end of the chapters. Im excited to read every week, its not a lot to take in, and its great to meditate on. I would have liked to have this book with my previous pregnancies, but there is still the option of saying the same prayers over my kids that are already here. I'll be recommending this book to every pregnant woman I meet.

What a WONDERFUL book! And I say that not only because I was Dan and Jennifer's Birth Doula! I could hardly put it down and I'm too old to be pregnant! I almost immediately loaned it to a pregnant friend at church (yet another "miraculous" pregnancy!). Since then, we've purchased about 20 copies to give to all of our nieces, nephews, God-daughters, etc. Some of them are only 1 year old now! A few women at our Christian church have done the same. I loved the insights to pray not only for your baby's physical qualities, but also how Jennifer and Carolyn linked that to your baby's spiritual qualities. What a great idea! For example, perfect physical vision but also the "heart" vision to see beyond someone's words and into their heart; to see as Jesus sees. Each chapter was short, thereby not overwhelming when new families have so many other preparations to make. I was very surprised to read all that Jennifer has lived through at the end of the book. What an amazing and overcoming champion of a woman she is! This is not the story of a victim. Indeed, Jennifer is not only a survivor, she is a THRIVER! I only fell more in love with her, Dan, Micah Kekoa, and Malia Grace with each passing page. I HIGHLY recommend this book for ALL pregnant women who would like to pray through their pregnancies. Jennifer and Carolyn even left room for individual responses. I would CHERISH reading these if they had been written by my own mother. Each scripture was also perfectly placed. I praise God for inspiring them to write this book!Praying Through Your Pregnancy: An Inspirational Week-by-Week Guide for Moms-to-Be

as grand parents this book is a wonderful gift to give any expectant parents or a couple longing to have a child.
The week by week progress of the baby's development gives an excellent realization that God cares for each one of His special created ones. It becomes a keepsake as there is space to journal the whole process. What a wonderful gift this is to give your child in future generations as well. Thank you, Carolyn and Jennifer for writing such a thoughtful keepsake

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book!, May 14, 2010
This review is from: Praying Through Your Pregnancy: An Inspirational Week-by-Week Guide for Bonding with Your Baby (Hardcover)
This book truly helped me through a difficult pregnancy. There are hundreds of pregnancy books out there, but none quite like this one. After my doctor ordered me to go on complete bedrest at only 6 months into my pregnancy, I truly needed these specific prayers to help calm my overwhelming anxieties and to help me pray for my child. Now, I have a beautiful 7 month old baby girl, and I am so thankful for the great comfort and support this book brought to me as I prayed each week. Every expectant mother needs to have this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for every mother-to-be., December 4, 2011

After spending years praying a personalized form of Hannah's Prayer (1 Samuel 1:9-11) that God would bless us with a child. It was a great delight and blessing to find out we were expecting a child. So, I desired a prayer book to help guide my devotions during my pregnancy and purchased this book.

"Praying Through Your Pregnancy" is a great resource to any mom-to-be who wants to pray for their child through each stage of physical development, spiritual development and their future as well.

The book is structured so that each week of pregnancy includes the following sections:
- Excerpt from Jennifer's Pregnancy Journal
- Devotional Section
~ An overview of the current stage of physical development based on the current week.
~ A complementary thought to the physical development on what associated spiritual development item should be prayed for.
~ Threaded through the devotional is Jennifer's inspirational story of her pregnancies and the stories of other praying mothers, which provide an uplifting backdrop.
- Scripture for Thought and Meditation
- A Mother's prayer for the week
- Journal Questions (with Journaling Space)

I think everyone will use the book differently, but I read the weekly entry as part of an extended devotional time on Sundays to help guide my thoughts for the week. I used the prayer portion through the week as a guide for my own personal prayer and starting place to explore the themes of the week. I read through the Journal thoughts and thought about them, but didn't journal on the items. I think in the future I'd use these questions in the personal journal / baby journal I keep. During the pregnancy I was journaling using the book "Love Letters to My Baby", so I didn't add any extra journaling time.

The best part of the book is that it was a great tool God used to take me on a journey toward growing closer to Him, while praying for and praising Him for the privilege of having a child. I really enjoyed the journey and felt it added spiritual depth to my pregnancy that I wouldn't have wanted to miss out on.

I read this book while pregnant with my second baby and wish I had it to read during my first pregnancy. Beautiful book full of great personal stories that I could relate to. Simple straight forward prayers that made it super easy to pray for all the different aspects of my growing child. I will be giving this book as gifts to all my friends as they become pregnant in the future.
