This review is from: Pre-Raphaelite Poetry: An Anthology (Dover Thrift Editions) (Paperback)
I was expecting either poetry that inspired the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, such as Tennyson and the English Romantic poets. If it was actual poetry written by the Pre-Raphaelite artists, I was hoping for the poems of Elizabeth Siddal.
Instead, there are only five poets' work represented: Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Christina Rossetti, Algernon Charles Swinburne, William Morris, and George Meredith. Breakdown of pages: Dante Gabriel Rossetti: Pages 1-62 Christina Rossetti: Pages 63-104 Algernon Charles Swinburne: Pages 105-154 William Morris: Pages 155-179 George Meredith: 180-186 There are 194 pages to the book, including the index. I was disappointed with the selections of poetry represented, as well. How can they anthologize Christina Rossetti and not include 'Goblin Market'? If you're looking for a cheap edition of the poetry of Rossettis, this will service. Otherwise, of little interest. |
