Technical Details

Product Description

Listing is for 25 Pre-stratified Thornless Blackberry SEEDS Pre-stratified means: that these seeds have been wet stored for 2 months at approximately 3 degrees C to simulate their natural dormant stage and are ready to start germination when you receive them. Plants are grown in the northern climates for cold hardiness yet produce abundant fruit as far south as planting zone 9. Children absolutely go wild during picking, and since they are thornless, there is no danger of little wounds to heal.

I think it's great that they're offering these seeds from thornless blackberries, but novice gardeners should really be cautioned about what they are getting.

These will not necessarily grow in your area, will not necessarily produce good fruit, and may not even be thornless. That's what happens when you plant blackberry seeds.

Most people plant blackberries as cuttings from a known cultivar. That way you know what kind of fruit you're going to get, how thorny the plants will be, and whether they will grow well in your climate. There are even some varieties now that are "primocane" so that they can grow berries on new branches (that's almost a requirement north of zone 5, because the old branches rarely make it through the winter).

These seeds should be fine if you live in prime blackberry country or are interested in experimenting to see if you can find the next great blackberry cultivar. In fact, this small investment -- if you are really lucky, could make you a lot of money if you end up with a thornless, hardy, productive bush.

These are supposed to be pre-stratified which means they should germinate and grow with warm temps and moisture. 1 and a half weeks and no germination in soil or paper towels, not holding out much hope they ever will. waste of money

Followed instructions carefully. Not a single seed germinated. Next time I am going to start from root cuttings. Most pros I talked to plant cuttings. I wish I had done that to start with.

The seeds did not sprout, wel I take that back. I left a few seeds in my pants, they were washed. The next time I wore the jeans - the seeds were sproutlets. I quickly put them in the dirt and they died. Maybe I have no green thumb?

Its sweet and plump only bad part are the birds that love it as much as I do , Im replanting a few things to add on and I again bought these Seeds from the same Company when you find a good company you go back to them , thank you for your Customer Service. When I first planted them I started them inside even though a lot of people said to start them out side , they grew fast and the plant was healthy then I planted it outside and so far so good.
