A Great Blues Artist for a New Generation
I first saw Joe Louis Walker in concert when he opened for Huey Lewis and the News in 1991. I was blown away by this man and his band (then called the Boss Talkers). Through the years Walker has changed to a bigger lable, but his music and sound is still top-shelf. His arrangements and song writing is getting better and better. Joe is an excellent guitarist and a capable singer. The quality of his singing is uneven. He has a decent voice, but he doesn't always pick songs that "fit" his voice. He does an excellent job of singing in "Pride of a Fool". But I frequently find his voice irritating. Very nice guitar soloing on "I'm Not Messin' Around". But the 2 songs...

This review is from: Preacher & The President (Audio CD)
I first saw Joe Louis Walker in concert when he opened for Huey Lewis and the News in 1991. I was blown away by this man and his band (then called the Boss Talkers). Through the years Walker has changed to a bigger lable, but his music and sound is still top-shelf. His arrangements and song writing is getting better and better. On his latest release, JLW has no less than three excellent songs. My favorites are Preacher and the President and The Pride of a Fool. If you have never purchased a JLW disc, the best news is they are all great! I recommend Live at Sim's Vol 1 & 2, plus his early The Gift. From the later years I like House of the Blues and Great Guitars. Go JLW!

But the 2 songs I mentioned are the only ones I liked. --You might like the album "The Story of My Life" by Guitar Slim, Jr. -- You might think that with songs like, "Preacher and the President", "I'm Not Fooling Around", "Lyin' in the Name of Love", "Pride of a Fool", "Uhh!", "Tell the Truth", and "My Real Fantasy" that the whole album is about Bill Clinton. No, you don't see anything directed specifically at Bill ("I never!") Clinton.
