Devil in the Pulpit,
By OOSA Online Book Club "O.O.S.A. Gets It Read!" (World Wide Web, USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Preacherman Blues (Paperback)
Bishop Percival Turner (PC) and his associate pastor, Terrell Money (TJ), have been friends since they were children. Percival loves TJ like a brother and has openly shown TJ the extent of his love. Unfortunately, TJ hasn't done the same. While church is a business to many, Percival is different. He isn't playing the role of a preacher, he is a preacher.
TJ is not truly a man of GOD. TJ's real actions are proven as he's using church money to try to gain property that they need for a new development. Money's goal is to have the largest church without any regard for who will suffer behind his vindictive acts. How much more will PC encounter before his eyes are truly opened to his friend? "Preacherman Blues" by Jihad is an excellent read. With each page you want more and more. My only complaint is that the sequel won't be released until 9/9/09. Reviewed by: Carmen

One Good...One Evil!,

This review is from: Preacherman Blues (Paperback)
Best-friends since childhood, Terrell Money and Percival Turner had big dreams to become mega preachers and head up their own church.
As adults, Terrell and Percival known as TJ and PC respectively achieved their dream and then some. Both now married men they are respected leaders in the community. With the ownership of One World Faith AME mega church that seats thousands and coveted awards such as Bishop of the Year bestowed upon them these men are sitting pretty. Money is no object and TJ and PC make sure that everybody knows it! TJ always took the leading role. Sometimes PC didn't always agree with TJ on certain things but he was content to follow along and cover up many of his best-friend's dirty deeds. The story really heats up when PC starts feeling guilty about their not so Christian lifestyles and tries to right the wrongs; but Terrell "TJ" Money ain't having none of that...oh no! This brings about a holy war like no other!! This was a well rounded read for me. I enjoyed the story and couldn't believe the lengths that TJ would go to!!!! The author was not afraid to put the popular characters through the wringer and some didn't survive...I loved that. This is certainly a recommended read. Locksie ARC Book Club Inc.

What we do in the name of the GOD...
I had the pleasure of receiving an autographed copy of Preacher Man Blues by JIHAD. After multiple conversations with the author, JIHAD, I knew I was in for a real treat. But what I got from reading Preacher Man Blues was so much more. JIHAD is truly a wonderfully gifted author, a talented man, whose socially-conscious and eye-opening novel not only provided entertainment, it was enlightening. As Preacher Man Blues opens, we are introduced to Pastor Terrell Joseph Money, a preacher and one half of a duo of preachers who would eventually form a mega church in Atlanta. It's been said that a first impression is a lasting one, and this proves to be true as Pastor Money, from page one, found himself in situations that would make your head spin and do a double take. He doesn't disappoint as the book progresses. His measures will leave your mouth agape and make your blood boil. The callous nature of his actions reveals that the devil does come in many forms. On the flipside, meet Percival Turner - a devoted man of God, who completes his Masters in Divinity, marries his high school sweetheart and dedicates his life to preaching the word of God, and lending a helping hand to all those in need. The measure of this man is evidenced by his dedication to his community and to his family. He is one of those characters that you want to cheer for. This is the ultimate tale of Good vs. Evil. Pastor Turner (PC) and Pastor Money (TJ) are the best of friends, brothers in Christ, who are the leading pastors in the community. Eventually they build an empire which includes mega churches and real estate development. PC's goal is to uplift the community and is not concerned with the dollars and cents. TJ's vision, however, is quite different, and the greed and corruption which motivates most of his decisions soon conflicts with PC's mission - to lead those gone astray back to the Lord. With colorful characters that provide many laugh out loud moments, to horrific situations that will bring you to tears, Preacher Man Blues has all of the elements of a great read, and everything you want in a good novel; page-turning delight that you can't read quick enough, yet, don't want to end. JIHAD, however, takes it one step further by providing a perspective not seen too often in contemporary literature. He is brilliant in how he teaches you life lessons through his characters situations, as you can apply many of the lessons learned to your own walk in life. Preacher Man Blues comes highly recommended. Please visit JIHAD online to get your copy. [...] Reviewed by Elissa Gabrielle, Author & Publisher [...]

Testing Faith,

The church would definitely say, "Bless this poor soul," in Jihad's new novel,"Preacherman's Blues."
Two friends since adolescence, Terrell TJ Money and Percival PC Turner, are visionaries when it comes to gathering the largest congregation possible to read the daily Word, but of course with a cost. Only when dark secrets from both childhood friends rise from the pulpit in every form, shape and fashion, will one of the preachermen not want to take the fall and lose sight of their original vision, which is to rob the poor to give to the rich by building a mega church, and to make the most money possible. Set in Atlanta, GA, the author introduces us to characters who are woven with the flair that ordinary people have come across in their daily lives: drug addict Deidre, who does not have time for turning to the next scripture in a holy book, but has time to turn something or someone else; Bishop PC Turner is thrown into an abyss of tests of faith while trying to find out just who is behind all of the mayhem he encounters when his life starts to go downhill in a matter of what seemed to me, minutes; Carmen, a woman whose friendship he adores no matter what their history consisted of, who is aware of the shady images of those around the Bishop, particularly Pastor Money. The author used imagery related to the urban street life of non-followers of the church, which helped shape the mission of the main character. The aura of Preacherman's Blues was displayed in the same manner as either Cain and Abel or Judas, the disciple who betrayed Christ. The conflict seemed very authentic especially since the entire novel was based around testing one's faith and being able to continue the fight against those that glee over seeing one in their worst state ever. This was a good read for those going through a test of assurance.

(RAW Rating: 3.5) A Devil In Disguise,

This review is from: Preacherman Blues (Paperback)
For best friends, Terrell "TJ" Money and Percival "PC" Turner, growing up the only thing they wanted to be were big-time preachers and leaders in one of the largest churches in the Southeast, One World Faith. Each has their own reasons for wanting to be preachers. PC was lured by the call of God, and his only goal is helping others; at least that's how it starts off. TJ becomes a preacher for the wrong reasons - the money. They don't call him TJ Money for nothin'. Besides the money, he is lured by the status he has within the community. Although married, he's a real ladies man. He begins using some of the church tithes to go into other business ventures making him and PC very wealthy. PC gets caught up in the wealth for a minute, but when tragedy hits, he falls into a deep depression and realizes TJ is really just the devil in disguise. TJ will stop at NOTHING to get what he wants and I mean NOTHING.
PREACHERMAN BLUES will leave you with your mouth hanging open; you just won't believe what a man of God is willing to do to keep all he has and gain what he doesn't. It may even have you looking at your preacher sideways. All in all, I thought this was a pretty good read. Reviewed by Leona Romich for The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers

I truly enjoyed reading this book. It's about two friends in the church- PC and TJ. When PC loses his family, he goes through some changes and realizes the errors of his ways. TJ is the thugged out minister- in ghetto fashion. There is no help for this brother. He is not to be trusted. You have to read this one .

I tried to read this book. From the very beginning it had too many twists and turns. I had to keep going back to the very beginning to remember who was who and what was what. I did not like this one. Maybe if I had of kept on reading maybe things would have changed for the better. I need to have a book to grab me by the 1st few chapters, and this didnt catch me.
