5.0 out of 5 stars A NEW CARL WEBER FAN IS BORN
I never read Carl Weber's books before because I didn't like his titles: Baby Momma Drama, Player Haters... You know what I mean. But everybody in my book club's been talking about him and I got a galley for the Preachers Son in the mail yesterday. Well, the title on this one was a little more appealing to me so I started to read and I didn't stop reading until I was...

3.0 out of 5 stars PK's can be the worst
Is this book considered Christian fiction? If so, Weber's put some sparkle in it. A great example showing that Christian folks can commit fornication and curse and lie too. The author shows that just because Christian confessing folks do these things, doesn't mean that they aren't Christians. This book should simply be titled "PK" because everyone knows that PK means...

5.0 out of 5 stars A NEW CARL WEBER FAN IS BORN, December 7, 2004
This review is from: The Preacher's Son (Hardcover)
I never read Carl Weber's books before because I didn't like his titles: Baby Momma Drama, Player Haters... You know what I mean. But everybody in my book club's been talking about him and I got a galley for the Preachers Son in the mail yesterday. Well, the title on this one was a little more appealing to me so I started to read and I didn't stop reading until I was finished. (It's 5AM) My goodness Carl Weber where have you been all my life. This book was so good it's frightening. I felt like I was right in the middle of everything that was going on. I don't wanna tell the story but how does a man who writes books called Baby Momma Drama and Player Haters know so much about church? Carl Weber I'm about to go to work and tell everyone who will listen about this book and when I get off I'm headed to the store to buy your other books. You're a great writer and a glad to be your newest fan.
Thanks for a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Character Development, April 3, 2005
This review is from: The Preacher's Son (Hardcover)
One thing I have always admired about Carl is his ability to develop fictional characters. This book proves my point. The characters in this book, everyone from Dante to Donna to Shorty to Taniesha and last but not least, the First Lady and Bishop, come to life throughout the pages. As a preacher's kid myself, I am well aware of all the stone-throwing and freakiness that goes on behind the scenes in a congregation. The main people looked up to in the church are often the most scandalous of the bunch. I really loved the Dante character because he was a "real man" who did not rely on his sex organ to make his most important decisions. He was forgiving, loving, and compassionate; everything most women want in a man but fail to find or often overlook similar to the way Taniesha almost did in the novel. For a fast-paced entertaining ride, you can never go wrong with a Carl Weber novel. This one is definitely a conversation piece that I am sure bookclubs across the country are eating up. I loved the excerpt from his upcoming novel and can't wait to read it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Let us pray..., January 14, 2005

This review is from: The Preacher's Son (Hardcover)
I've always heard the saying that preacher's children are sometimes some of the worst children on the planet. They slap on their holy and righteous facade around other Christians, but when they are in private, they become bigger devils than Satan himself. In his latest release, THE PREACHER'S SON, Carl Weber takes that saying to a level so extreme, you may find yourself sneaking a deeper look at the life of a preacher's child that you may know.

Dante and Donna are the children of Bishop T. K. Wilson, the pastor of one of the largest churches in Queens, New York. As such, they are expected to carry themselves in a manner pleasing to God, and one that will not bring shame or reproach upon their father's good name. Being saved and sanctified is the furthest thing from each of their minds as they continually engage in some of the freakiest, most unrighteous and sinful acts that they can think of. But just as the Bible says, what's done in the dark will come to light. When the switch is flipped, it gets real ugly and who's left standing is anybody's guess.

In all my years of reading, I've only read one or two books by Weber, including this one. Out of those few, THE PREACHER'S SON was the best I've read by him. The secret lives of each of the characters are so outrageous that all I could do was shake my head as I eagerly flipped the pages trying to see what would happen next. All of the characters, whether primary or secondary, had their own distinct voice, and Weber seamlessly stepped into each character and really brought them to life. Just as I neared the end of the book, and thought that there couldn't possibly be anything else that would shock me about the Wilson family, Weber proved me wrong. He throws in a shocking twist that hits you like a ton of bricks. If you're looking for a good read to escape the pressures of life, pick up a copy of this book. You won't be disappointed. (RAW Rating: 4.5)

Once again Mr. Weber has mesmerized us again. As always invites readers into the complicated lives of a "church" family who appear on the surface to have everything imaginable. But as the readers delve into the hidden secrets of these family members the truth slowly but surely oozes out.

BRAVO!! Come on Mr. Weber, hurry up and finish So You Call Yourself A Man

5.0 out of 5 stars KUDOS for the Preacher's Son!!!, January 31, 2005

This novel is absolutely delicious!! This is Mr. Weber's best work I think to date! I have read all of Mr. Weber's work to date and I think that this is his best! This book deserves to be 10 stars!!!

This is his first novel based on a Christian perspective and I must stay that I was very pleased with how he portrayed Rev. TK Wilson, the First Lady Charlene, the son (Dante) and the daughter (Donna).

Mr. Weber told the Gospel Truth...Christians are imperfect human beings who are capable of doing wrong but we are striving toward the mark of the high calling of Jesus Christ.

I want to say thank you and God bless you for such a pleasurable yet inspirational read! I am looking forward to your next work, You Call Yourself a Man! I am recommending this book to my reading group. Everyone who calls himself/herself a Christian needs to read this book!!!

May God continue to use you as his Vessel!!

A Proud Fan!

5.0 out of 5 stars He's done it AGAIN!!!, June 30, 2005
This review is from: The Preacher's Son (Hardcover)
Carl Weber NEVER disappoints me...he ALWAYS delivers a story ripe with drama, scandalous characters and intrigue. From the high standing Bishop, to the judgemental/self-righteous First Lady and down to their children the ever-pleasing Dante and good girl/bad girl Donna - their stories draw you in from page 1.

This was definitely a page-turner I read it in 2 days while I was on vacation...that's how GOOD it was. You'll LOVE it...I know I did!!!

Note to Carl Weber: Keep them comin'!!!!

I read all of Carl's books and this book rates up there with the rest, maybe No. 1. This book was definitely a page turner and held my interest throughout the entire book. Yes, it was predictable in some spots, but something was constantly happening, never a slow moment, and a fast read. I didn't want the book to end, but I wanted to see what would happen at the end. Carl, when is the next one?

5.0 out of 5 stars CARL WEBER DELIVERS AGAIN!!!, March 28, 2005
This review is from: The Preacher's Son (Hardcover)
The story is well rounded about the life of a P.K. (preacher's kid) and his life situations...from his parents, to the parishioners, to his personal friends and his rocky love-life. Dante Wilson, the preacher's son is the main character and has issues:some he brought on himself and some he just inherited because of his "supposed" father,T.K.Wilson. Carl has the element of surprise as skeletons come out the closet of the Wilson family. Anita, the deacon's wife is a de-ranged lover of Dante and has a fatal attraction. Dante's mom, the 1st Lady of the church has a split personality -that of a lady and behind the scenes, most times a B-with an "itch". Pastor T.K. Wilson is a tender, yet firm man with a past which could harm his election as a politician. Carl has a way of re-introducing characters from his previous novels to see if you can stay afloat with him. His style is humorous, suspenseful and story is unpredictable as usual. I loved the book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Carl Weber Never Disappoints HIs Fans, March 22, 2005
This review is from: The Preacher's Son (Hardcover)
This is a good book. Carl Weber has a unique writing style in his novels in that each chapter tells the story from the character's point of view that heads up the chapter. "The Preacher's Son" flows in the same manner as his other books. You don't want to put it down. The ending was a bit too close to a soap opera for me but this is still a good read.

I like how Mr. Weber always gives a reading guide for the novel as well as a sneak peek at his next novel at the end of his books. He practically makes book clubs put his titles on their reading lists. This author is very smart. Mr. Weber also tends to have recurring characters, sometimes I remember them but I read so many books that unless they're major characters my memory fails me. Another smart marketing move, he makes you want to go back and reread or buy for the first time some of his earlier work. I am not mad at you Mr. Weber. Keep doing your thing!!

For all those Amazon readers out there looking to read good African-American fiction, buy this book, you will get your money's worth.
