Jeff Klein's latest album with My Jerusalem, "Preachers," is perfection. Every song on the album could stand on its own as a classic; yet when you listen to the album as intended, from the haunting "Preachers" all the way to "I Left My Conscience in You," you get the added bonus of hearing a musical masterpiece, each song in its proper place, each song perfectly leading into the next. It's a hypnotic, mesmerizing experience, and it should come with a warning to those unprepared for the spell it casts. Drummer Grant Van Amburgh deserves credit for the driving beat of the album, which he showcases on "Death Valley" - I dare you to get that song out of your head after you've heard it. Jeff himself calls their music Post-Modern Southern Gothic Soul, which is a pretty good description - I'd add Blues (the achingly beautiful "Between Space") to that description - the blues play a large part in most of his songs - and there's a bit of country in "This Time," a rollicking 'I promise I'll be good this time, baby, honest,' song: "A man can change. Honestly. Even me" - his voice is so damned perfect for every song. They could not have chosen any better songs to end the album than "Chameleon" and "I Left My Conscience in You," both of them heart-rippingly mournful, yet uplifting in the pure beauty of the guitars, the words, the melody, and . . . that voice. You might try, but you will be unable to stop yourself from going back to "Preachers" to start it all over again. And again. Pure perfection.

As a big fan of the band's first album, Gone for Good, I had been waiting for their follow-up for what felt like an eternity. Now that it is here and I've listened to it through multiple times I am thrilled to say that this album evolves the band in interesting and unexpected ways, making them seem more serious and thoughtful while at the same time maintaining the energy and fun of the first album. I can't wait to see them perform this album live when they come back through California. I'm positive this album will be in my stereo for a long time. Preachers feels like artist defining work that people will be listening to for years to come.

Saw these guys open for the Electric Six. They were unknown to me. They blew me away, it almost felt like a "spiritual" experience for lack of a better word. Which is strange as I am not a spiritual person. I wasn't the only one, I watched them draw the crowd in and over the course of their set, just completely own them. I have never seen an opening band do that before. When they finished i had forgotten about the headliners, I just wanted My Jerusalem to keep playing. Anyway, got home and bought their entire catalog. They have really hit their stride with this , only their sophomore effort. Every song is great on it's own but taken as a whole it's a real album jack. I didn't know artists even tried to make real albums anymore. If there is any justice these guys are going to be huge. Buy this album now while it's on sale. And, if you get the chance, go see them live. You will not be disappointed.

I am a big fan of Jeff Klein's work going back to _The Hustler_ but feel he has reached a maturation or fruition of his talents with _Preachers_. The musicianship, as always, is brilliant but this does have a darker, edgier sound than his previous work and his voice is beginning to take on a more effortless quality and raspy patina. My favorite track is "Devoe" but there are no weak songs and only one "Oh Jeff" moment with the tired simile "under a blood red sky/under a pumkin moon" on "Death Valley." This album deserves much wider notice and along with Mark Lanegan's _Blues Funeral_ gets my vote for best album of 2012.

This album seems to be overlooked by a lot of people, and it's a shame. 'Preachers' is full of beautifully written songs and it has a haunting quality that will stick with you for days after you hear it. It reminds me of driving through the desert in a convertible with the top down... you may not know where you're headed when you start out, but Jeff Klein & Company will get you there. Buy it!
