Alistair Begg's comments on the importance of expository preaching are a must-read for those handling God's Word. As usual, his insights are invaluable. This book is a credit to its field and should be read and applied by pastors and laity. All Christians are called to the Great Commission, and this book is a practical way of presenting Jesus and Him crucified to a lost world. I thank God for faithful, uncompromising preachers and teachers, such as Alistair Begg.

Begg's 48-page, 6-chapter work is a breath of fresh air into the preaching world. Begg's argument for expository preaching and his chapter on "Practical Pointers" is exceptional - any preacher, whether they agree with expository preaching or not, should read this book. Anyone who does will come away with a greater realization of the magnitude and importance of preaching the Word of God to our world today.

At a whopping 48 half-size pages, this can hardly be considered a book. But despite its diminutive size, it is grand in its content.

I have spent more money on this small book than I have on some theological sets that rest on my shelf. Not that the booklet costs very much, but because I have to continually replace it. I no sooner get a new copy than I find an opportunity to give it away to another preacher.

There are many preaching books that are more technically astute than this one. There are many that are more homiletically or hermeneutically instructive. But none will give the preacher a better reminder, quicker, than this one. The best way I can describe this little book is that it is like hard candy to a diabetic. It won't give you everything you need, but it will do the trick to prevent a catastrophic crash.

I like to keep a copy in my office to periodically review. It reminds me of the necessity of expository preaching--even when it's difficult. It reminds me of the benefits of expository preaching--even when I don't see them. It reminds me of the steps to take to be an effective expository preacher--even when I don't want to take them. And finally, it reminds me that God is in control of it all--even when, right at the moment, I don't believe it.

I might as well go ahead and order another copy--I just thought of another preacher friend I'll give this one to.

For the minister Dr Begg's book is basic,simple yet much needed. In a day where expository preaching is overlooked,neglected or simply considered outdated this book emphasises the importance of the type of preaching that lets the scripture speak for tiself.
