5.0 out of 5 stars Great with automatic litter boxes
This is by far the best litter I've tried. 2.0 out of 5 stars Saturates quickly, then stinks
This stuff was great for the first day, OK on the second day, and stank horribly on the third day. I did stir/rake the crystals several times a day as instructed. I have 3 cats and there are 2 boxes but they tend to use one for urine and one for feces. They are all on wet food only and urine volume is fairly high but none of them have kidney disease or diabetes so there...

This is by far the best litter I've tried. I have 2 automated cat boxes (Petmate Litter RoundUp One Touch Electric Litter Controll System Blue/Gray and Scoop Free Automatic Self Cleaning Litter Box - Scoop Free Automatic Self Cleaning Litter Box, but have had a really hard time finding litter that works well with them and lasts more than a few days. (I have 2 cats). I was given a free bag of this litter at a local outdoor festival. The woman told me it should last 2 months with 1 cat. I was skeptical, but it has been great. The crystals are small and light weight, so it works well with both boxes. And with two cats it definitely lasts a month.

I have 3 cats and there are 2 boxes but they tend to use one for urine and one for feces. They are all on wet food only and urine volume is fairly high but none of them have kidney disease or diabetes so there are no "special needs". When I emptied the box today I could see all the crystals were saturated and there was pee all over the bottom of the box. Yuck! I'm going back to World's Best Cat Litter. I have this 2 starts instead of 1 because perhaps for 1 small cat it would be OK. But they are marketing it as "senior" cat litter for diabetics and kidney failure cats, who are going to be urinating 3-4 times as much as healthy cats like mine!

This is a specialized product for older cats & their urinary tract health. I had bought a bag to try out on my two 6 year old cats as it was a good buy and wanted to see if it was something they would like. I did not follow any special instructions on introducing this into their boxes, I just filled up one of their sand boxes. After a week of no use, I bagged it back up and gave it away. Maybe I could have used it to add to the other litter I had, but didn't want to take the chance of the cats not wanting to use it again.
If you do have an older cat with urinary health on the agenda, I would try a bag. This is nothing like any clay type material, it is lightweight fluff. My cats are use to the more clay like Dr. Elsey cat litters.

My 17 year old kitty has renal failure and pees a lot. I follow the directions and change the litter every 2 weeks, the bag lasts 4 weeks. So I use 1 bag a month. No smells if I change every 2 weeks and scoop daily. She hasn't had another urinary tract infection in months since I switched from Yesterday's News. Also, I give her a dose of antibiotics, Cipro, once a week as a preventive, but no subcutaneous fluids. I am very pleased with the litter, and love the free shipping with Amazon Prime.

I am just amazed that I bought something and it ACTUALLY worked! we have tried for at least 15 years to potty train a kitty that we had gotten that used to be abused before we got her and her sister. we tried EVERYTHING that the vet said to do and the internet and NOTHING would work! we have even tried ever litter on the earth and nothing would get her to go in the box. she would go right on the floor in front of the box (lucky for us it is a basement floor but still no fun to clean up EVERYDAY!) and after getting this product i thought "well we will try but i am SURE it isn't going to work" boy was i wrong! It really did work! i am still amazed. the only set back is that you have to keep the litter off the floor so when they get in and out and it comes off of their feet onto the floor and they smell it.. then they will go in front of the box again. but she is not going on the floor 1 and 2 times a day! it happens MAYBE once every 2 months now ... but ONLY if I don't sweep the floor around the box and the litter gets on the floor. so I am just AMAZED that something actually does what it is advertised to do! YEEE HAAAA!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooray Dr Elsey!, February 9, 2011

I like this litter alot and I've tried all kinds. My cat isn't a senior but he's overweight (so can't clean himself so well) and although a short-hair cat, he has longer hair around his butt. This stuff doesn't stick to it and doesn't track around the house like many others I've tried (particularly the fluffy pine stuff, clay litters, and corn/corn cob stuff). I also like that it isn't depleting the clay supplies of the world, doesn't promote yet more corn growth, and like the bag said, it's safe to inhale and doesn't promote bacterial growth, as do the "natural" corn/wheat/pine litters).
I don't have an odor problem with it and when it becomes more yellow-green than mint-green, I change out the whole box. I do clean out the solid waste almost every day and if I can catch a clump of a urine ball before it dries, I take it out. I also use a mat to catch the litter around the box and from his paws when he first comes out, and other than that, I never find it tracked around the house. It is more expensive but because it lasts fairly long, I consider it worth it. I also use a Kitty's Wonder Box inside of a plastic uncovered cat box. The KWB is made of recycled paper and I think it helps with air circulation and hence also cuts down odor too. So after trying a billion systems I finally have one that works well.

5.0 out of 5 stars great mixed with precious cat clay litter, September 2, 2010
This review is from: Precious Cat Senior Litter, 8lbs (Misc.)
Specialty litter for senior cats. As another reviewer noted, very light and fluffy. Pleasant, fresh, light, unobtrusive scent (totally unlike offensive heavy perfumes of Tidy Cats, etc). This is NOT a clumping litter; I mixed it with enough Precious Cat clay litter to make it clump. Works great this way, helps with odor control, the Senior litter keeps clumps from sticking to the sides of the litter box, and the litter box is not as heavy as with 100% clay. Both my cats were fine with the change. The only downside other than expense is the Senior litter generates more dust than the clay, which the manufacturer says is an advantage (the dust supposedly coats feces better). If you didn't like using 100% Senior, try it again mixed enough clay to make it clump. Works great for me and both my almost-20 year old cats.

Tip: mix in activated charcoal granules for even more odor control. When one cat developed extremely nasty smelling diarrhea, the litter retained the odor no matter how often I scooped even with the Senior litter mixed in. Activated charcoal granules mostly eliminated this lingering odor and again the cats did fine with it mixed in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Litter for Younger Cats as well!, July 20, 2010

When my middle-aged cat got a UI, I started using this for the same reasons you'd want to use it for Senior cats...and have kept on using it ever since. It truly dampens the smell, and the smaller crystals have the extra advantage of showing color change if there's a PH shift. (This is not a diagnostic tool, but can be helpful of warning you that there's an issue.)

It works fine in Scoop Free automatic litter box with that permanent plastic tray you can buy elsewhere on Amazon!

4.0 out of 5 stars Really does last a long time, December 16, 2009

We bought this for use in the roll over type cat litter box. Works very well and one bag will definitely last a month for our 13 pound 15 year old neutered male cat. Can't say I am completely satisfied with the odor control but it is as good as most others we have purchased that last such a shorter time that I will purchase it again. A bargain because it lasts so long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great litter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, August 5, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Precious Cat Senior Litter, 8lbs (Misc.)
This litter is great so far it does not stink after use or turn to jelly. I have two cats. My one cat developed a urinary issue and it has drove me insane. It started when I decided to change the plain rock dust litter to a cleaner type. I used the paper pellet type because it was not dusty and seem cleaner, but it was perfumed though my one cat got sick from it, and so I tried best cat the corn litter that was a no go the other cat was allergic.

*** Since starting this a few days ago "Precious Cat" herbal litter both cats like it, theres no perfume smell, no symptoms of allergies and I hope my one cat gets well soon from this urinary issues!***

Great product!!!!
