5.0 out of 5 stars Why Did R&B Radio and Music Fans Ignore This Album?
I am so puzzled as to why Chante Moore is not a big superstar? Precious, was one of the best R&B albums of the 90s. Its simple, but beautiful take on love reminded me of the great/late Minnie Riperton. But Chante doesn't try to re-do Minnie (no one can), she just tries to show us how love is something mentally, physically, sexually, and spiritually in her own special way...

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid beginnings for sweet-voiced songstress
In the early 90's, female R&B had a very different slant than it did at the end of the decade. The focus was on ballads and midtempo grooves with come-hither vocals delivering lyrics of love in all its stages. The singers were more feminine and the line between R&B and contemporary jazz was at its blurriest (lots of sax solos, piano flourishes, and very few...

I am so puzzled as to why Chante Moore is not a big superstar? Precious, was one of the best R&B albums of the 90s. Its simple, but beautiful take on love reminded me of the great/late Minnie Riperton. But Chante doesn't try to re-do Minnie (no one can), she just tries to show us how love is something mentally, physically, sexually, and spiritually in her own special way. The girl touched me with her music, words, and vocals. Chante needs to return to her roots, because her last cd "Exposed" left me feeling cold. But at least, I have "Precious" to keep me warm. My favorite songs are the jazzy 'Sexy Thang', the romantic duet 'Candlelight & U', the simple 'Precious' and the beautiful 'Finding My Way Back To You'. If you are not used to jazz-pop-opera-r&b being blended together, you might want to avoid this album. But you will be making a SERIOUS mistake if you did. This album may take a while before it hits you, but it will.

4.0 out of 5 stars A favorite, 8 years and counting..., June 7, 2000
This review is from: Precious (Audio CD)
I can honestly say that I enjoy each track on this CD. Chante has such a sweet voice and it is well suited to this collection of songs about love and romance. The lyrics are beautiful -- "Look at me, but not with your eyes, touch me with more than your hands." (From Listen to My Song). This woman is singing about unabashed emotion and love without boundaries. This CD delves into the way you immerse yourself in another person before you become bitter and jaded.

My favorites are the title track "Precious" (This song makes me want to learn French!), "Sexy thing" and "It's Alright." I really like "Candlelight and You" a sexy romp of a duet with Keith Washington. This CD is a classic.

This CD is timeless. I can't remember too many CDs where I NEVER skip over a song. Every one is a jewel to be cherished. I can't sang ( LAWD knows I wish I could!) but that doesn't stop me from bumping this with my windows up! So much truth for people suffering from that thang called "leftover love" in her song "AS IF WE NEVER MET." So much reality in "WHO DO I TURN TO." And put on something sexy, let the incense hang in the air as the Victoria Secret starts to fall (For the women, for the men, just get ready to unravel and savor her secrets) on the sulty and moving remix of "LOVE'S TAKEN OVER." (Put that one on REPEAT and let it take you through the night -- LAWD HAF MERCY!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Serenading Siren, April 11, 2001
This review is from: Precious (Audio CD)
Chante Moore impressed me with this debut. Well done slow songs and some good up tempo ones as well. Of course the most popular song was "Love's Taken Over", but there are other gems that deserve notice. Such as "Candlelight and You" and "Who do I turn to". I have to say that the last track which is the Quiet Storm version of "Love's Taken Over" is one of the more beautiful songs that I have heard.

Not completely perfect, but what debut really is? Relax, have fun and let the memories come flooding back.

In one word if I had to describe her looks and her lyrics, that would be truly beautiful. She has worked on her voice and now she is truly a wonderful person to me. Inside and out. Keep doing whatcha doing. 1!

I love this album!!! Chante' is such a talented person. Every song on this album is one that you can relate to if you have ever been in love with someone. "It's Alright" and "Candlelight and You" are my favorite songs on this album. "Candlelight and you" shows the magnificent vocal range that Chante' has. Plus, Keith Washington is a plus!!! 5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best R&B albums ever..., April 29, 2002

This CD is somewhere between the #1 and #2 spot on my all-time favorites list. I have practically worn my disc out! I know this album back and forth; for a good reason! It has to be one of the best R&B debuts ever. If you have an appreciation for soul-inspired, sensuous and beautiful lyrics, hypnotizing vocals and a good groove... This is your answer. I can't say enough good things about this album. Nothing is perfect, but this is darn close. This will ALWAYS be a classic. Go buy this one, it's a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Listen to her songs!, September 28, 2007

As soon as the last song went off, I knew I wanted to give "Precious" 5 stars. Usually it takes me a few minutes to decide how many stars I want to grant an album, but I instantly recognized this classic album for what it was. In her heyday, Chante' received lots of airplay, but I was so young when she was popular and never took notice to her voice and how beautiful it is. Now that I am an adult, I relate to her lyrics. This album has a very relaxing feel throughout, with no up tempo songs. It's completely void of fillers. The writers and producers of this album apparently took the time to make all of the songs quality.

"Love's Taken Over" and "It's Alright" are two of my favorite songs from the 1990's. These songs were released to the radio, so if you familiar with them and enjoy them, you will enjoy the rest of this album, of that I am certain. "Love's Taken Over" is a mid-tempo track about falling in love and not knowing what to do because of the joy it brings. "It's Alright" is one of the most inspiring songs I have ever heard: The repetition of "It's alright, it's alright" simply makes me feel better when I am afraid or in doubt. Chante' does a great job with harmony in "Precious" (the album's title track.) Her voice is angelic throughout the song and it features a piano solo that's worth mentioning. One thing I appreciate about this album is that the only track which features someone other than Chante' is "Candlelight and You", which features Keith Washington. Lately, R&B albums are inundated with rap versus and artists featuring other artists, and that is becoming so monotonous lately. "Candlelight and You" has a very romantic feel to it; it's something a couple can make love to. Chante's soft voice partnered with Keith's tender baritone make for a great duet. "Because You're Mine" and "As if We Never Met", while still great songs, are lackluster if comparing them to the rest of the album.

For those who enjoy instrumentation, there are a lot of sax and piano solos on this album. I highly suggest that all music lovers invest in this album. It's one of the best I've come across. Superb job Chante'!

Mikeisha's Top 5

1. "It's Alright"
2. "Love's Taken Over"
3. "Love's Taken Over" (Quiet Storm Mix)
4. "Listen to My Song"
5. "Precious"
