5.0 out of 5 stars A journey of surprises revealing a heroic struggle., September 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Precious Jewels of Tibet: A Journey to the Roof of the World (Paperback)
"Woven through a stimulating journey, filled with the surprises of travel in such an exotic land, are the wonderful pearls of Pablo Neruda, the Vajra-and-Bell Initiation, words from one of my favorites Chief Seattle, teachings of the Great Perfection and many more. Jane Bay's journey and narrative is the thread that holds the "Jewels" of this necklace as one piece. But most important of all, I gained from her book a new appreciation for the heroic struggle of the precious Tibetan people."

5.0 out of 5 stars A STORY YOU WON'T FORGET, September 24, 2011
This review is from: Precious Jewels of Tibet: A Journey to the Roof of the World (Paperback)
How does this reader explain the power and depth of Jane Bay's PRECIOUS JEWELS OF TIBET? I need to give you a visual: Picture walking along a favorite beach at dawn. The salt air is cool on your face. The sky is stained with ribbons of gold, turquoise and plum. Your bare feet relax into the wet sand as you gently stride along, one step. And then another. Something catches your eye. You discover a string of luminescent pearls half-buried in the sand and half suspended; floating on the incoming tide. You reach down and pick up the beautifully crafted necklace, wondering how it arrived in this place, at this particular time...literally, right at your feet. You hold the necklace in your hand and discover that each pearl is etched with a word. Strung together, they tell a powerful story: Love, Adventure, and Courage. You feel the emotions churn inside: Discovery, Understanding, and Wisdom. This is my metaphor for describing the experience of reading Jane Bay's PRECIOUS JEWELS OF TIBET. You wonder if you have what it takes to live as Jane lives; with kindness, compassion and a brilliant enchantment for the great mysteries that surround us. PRECIOUS JEWELS OF TIBET is one extraordinary woman's love affair with adventure and life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Precious Jewels of Tibet, February 10, 2011

This review is from: Precious Jewels of Tibet: A Journey to the Roof of the World (Paperback)
As a person who has both lost a child and is interested in Tibet, this book was a fascinating read. I felt like I was on the trip with her and by the end of the book truly wanted to make the same trip, as well as adopt a child there! She makes you care about the country, the people and herself. I read her book "Love and Loss" first and only wish I had read this one first. I highly recommend it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended to anyone seeking inspiration., June 10, 1998

This review is from: Precious Jewels of Tibet: A Journey to the Roof of the World (Paperback)
Jane Bay has written a poignant memoire about her mystical journey to Tibet. How insightful it is for us to observe the allegory of her spiritual unfoldment, from her wounded life to wounded Tibet. Indeed, modernism has resolved a number of vicissitudes at the superficial realm of existence, but it has simultaneously magnified a piercing existential dismemberment, while escaping the most fundamental plight of the human being: the aspiration to surpass oneself, like The Buddha. Jane Bay has experienced an intimate experience of felicity. I recommend "Precious Jewels of Tibet" to anyone probing the same everlasting question : Who am I ? Graciously echoed by Jane Bay' s gifted prose, this book is a window to the quintessential matters of the soul, a longing that is invested right now, for each of us, with a very vital meaning.
