Kuh's Precious Is Innovative and Different, August 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Precious (Audio CD)
Having been a Kuh Ledesma fan ever since she started more than ten years ago, I have seen how she has grown into the musical artist that has been respected, adored and even worshipped. The ice queen has thawed a lot through the years. And with the release of her first North American CD, I have waited in anticipation of the voice that has mimicked Streisand throughout the years. Precious is a CD that didn't come easy for me to like off the bat, with the expectation that I will hear beautiful ballads and love songs from the honey and silkful voice that is truly Kuh's. However, by the third time I have listened to this, the jazz fusion songs have been a great revelation to me that Kuh can tackle any song she wants. And all of the songs with the exception of the instrumental have been favorites of mine. Consider it an innovative work of hers that she wants to emancipate herself from the usual heart-wrenching love songs she is famous for. Kuh is strong in this CD and has delivered the goods in the manner that is reminiscent of Sade. For all Kuh fans, be assured that Love Begins With You is the love song that you have expected of her, giving in to the image and the repertoire that has endeared her to us. Kuh's Precious is different, innovative and deserves to be in your collection as a music fan.

Kuh is one precious artist, May 26, 2000
This review is from: Precious (Audio CD)
Striking out her surname from the album cover, Kuh Ledesma drops a set shimmering with polished material that should have little trouble denting the international scene and the charts with her trademark velvety voice. It is that voice that allows Kuh to explore her range, now exhibited in souL, adult-contemporarry, jazz and funk numbers. Even the arrangement are easy-flowing, thanks also to the well penned songs which reflect the dynamism of an unquestionable talent as Kuh. Although this is hardly the stuff that radio will instantly embrace, it will be downright foolish to ignore this sincere and superb production. Songs such as KEEP ON LOVING ME, PRECIOUS, MOONLIGHT, I PRAY, and LOVE BEGINS WITH YOU are the types that could refresh playlists of various formats. Which is why it is imperative to encourage worthy endeavors such as this. Is is one of the rare moments for Filipino pop music to charm overseas ears. KUH deserves the proper push and commitment for PRECIOUS to truly show what it is really worth. We mean, there should had been more aggressive steps such as promo tours, media visiblity and especially music videos. On its own merits, this album walks on water.

KUH'S PRECIOUS VOICE REACHES THE UNITED KINGDOM, September 29, 2001
This review is from: Precious (Audio CD)
I first discovered the golden voice of Kuh after obtaining the album 'The Soul of Smooth Jazz Vol. 2', released in the UK by Jazz FM. That CD features the tracks 'Lover's Journey' and 'Dreaming' and when i heard them, I had to investigate this artist's work further. The CD 'Precious' is, I would say, one of the best buys I've made in a long time. The track' Keep On Loving Me' encapsulates the spirit and mood of the CD and Kuh's rendition of the Doobie Brothers classic 'What a Fool Believes' demonstrates that she 'keeps her finger on the soulful pulse; it also demonstrates her incredible vocal range, as does the moving ballad 'Love Begins With You'. I first heard 'Love Will Follow' on Kenny loggins' album 'Outside-Live From The Redwoods and he teamed up with Shanice for his rendition of the song which he wrote. Kuh's version is good but lacks the length of Kenny's version. 'Moonlight', 'Silence' and 'I Remember Your Love' all demonstrate the fact that Kuh knows how to 'put a song across' in her own unique style. I say 'unique' as I know from other reviews that she has been compared to Barbra Streisand; I don't agree. Whilst both are excellent vocalists, their work, I think, is aimed at different audiences. Barbra has her own style and, thankfully, Kuh has hers. Their recorded material, whilst featuring strings, horns, etc, stands out as different to anyone who has a musical ear. I took this CD to Gibraltar recently and when played, many asked wwith interest who it was. That speaks for itself! I look forward to future releases by this artist.
