5.0 out of 5 stars Superb gospel music from Al Green
R&B legend Al Green also recorded some classic gospel music. This CD contains two of his best gospel albums. The first album on this CD, called Precious Lord, is one of my all-time favorite albums, for its spectacular joy, and truly uplifting music. Al Green is in a fantastic mood throughout the Precious Lord album, and the music is melodic and expertly performed...

1.0 out of 5 stars Insipid
It's a good thing Al Green came out commericial first because I never would have gotten this tape without thinking it was going to be as soulful as his "in his world" days. Al's commercial arranger declined following him into the gospel world, citing no experience. So, Al uses the commercial arrangements for the old gospel favorites and it sounds insipid.

The first album on this CD, called Precious Lord, is one of my all-time favorite albums, for its spectacular joy, and truly uplifting music. Al Green is in a fantastic mood throughout the Precious Lord album, and the music is melodic and expertly performed. I'll Rise Again, the second album on this CD, also features some great music, especially: the cathartic and beautiful song Ocean Blue, the heartfelt Jesus is Coming (Back Again), and the genuinely moving I Close My Eyes and Smile. Al Green honors the Messiah Jesus with his sincere performances on both these albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Rev. doing it the right way, October 11, 2006

I've been a Al Green fan since I was 4 (not to make Rev. Feel old) Personally I think he sings gospel better than he does secular music. But His voice is timeless and ageless he will always be number 1 in my book and this album proves it. You can't help but listen as Al brings to you the very core of his heart, where it needs to be, in gospel music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Surprisingly Excellent, December 13, 2008
This review is from: Precious Lord (Audio CD)
This is a collection of some of the best gospel music productions I've come across, listened or owned: in two CDs. I have already written my review of the first one - Precious Lord, calling it an "evergreen." The second one - I'll Rise Again (especially, Ocean Blue, I'll Rise Again, Straighten Out Your Life and Look at the Things that God Made) truly inspires me as well as encourages me in my difficult life's struggles. It's assuring, reminding us that God will win the final victory in our lives if we give Him a chance (Nwankama Nwankama).

I love how Al Green Sings these old gospel songs like Ole rugged cross. I have had this music for years but on cassette and oh well not too many people have cassette players now days, so I had to get it on CD. Love it I listen to it all the time in my car on my way to work. If you are a fan of Al Green and gospel, you too will enjoy this cd!
