This CD was apparently made from the masters of the Checker record "The Gospel Soul of Aretha Franklin" The recording was done in her father's church in front of the congregation. It is absoultely fantastic.
I found the record in an old music store in San Francisco in the 60's. At first I was disappointed that the songs were not the kind of fast paced gospel I was looking for. But after a few playings I realized I had a treasure. There is tremendous feeling in these songs. You wait for her to switch to a faster tempo, but she is restrained as if by force. The LP is one of two I wouldn't sell. I bought the CD the instant I realized what it was. If you like Aretha or gospel, you won't find a better deal than this.

This appears to be the same CD as the one I own of the same name on the Laserlight label. The track listings are identical. I wrote the review below for that album

The sound quality is initially jarring, because it sounds like a bootleg. A recording you'd make of your kid singing in church. If your kid were Aretha Franklin. Absolutely, positively mind-blowing. It's the voice you know, just cleaner, less practiced, and if possible - more powerful. Whatever your musical preference, if you respond to astounding performances from astounding vocalists, this is for you.
