Book Description

July 2001
Precious Metal Clay is a revolutionary new material developed in Japan. It contains microscopic particles of pure silver in a claylike substance. It can be rolled like cookie dough, cut with a cookie cutter, molded by hand or even thrown on a potters wheel. When fired the binder fires away and you are left with pure silver.

This book contains over 30 easy projects from jewelry to embellished candles to decorated lampshades. There are also great party and gift ideas.

Along with step by step projects, there is a section on finding your inspiration and developing your sense of creativity.

This book contains a foreward by Tim McCreight, well known author, metalsmith, teacher and consultant for the manufacturer of PMC.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

We know of no one that has tried PMC that has not loved it! The hardest part is always thinking of an idea to try. While this book will show you how to make many projects it will aslo help guide you to develop your own designs and projects.

The book is written in a light, easy to read fashion. You'll find yourself occasionaly laughing as you read along.

At the end of the book you will find a resource section for purchasing the PMC as well as places that will fire ot for you if you don't have your own kiln. If you own a kiln there are detailed instructions on how to fire the PMC.

A portion from the sale of each book goes to The Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund, a national organization that provides for uninsured costs for the families of seriously or terminally ill children.

4.0 out of 5 stars Precious Metal Clay- Creative Projects for the Beginner, January 2, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Precious Metal Clay : Creative Projects for the Beginner (Paperback)
This book was helpful in getting me started with PMC. The projects were quite creative and motivating.

Unfortunately, at the time this book was written there was only PMC standard and plus. Many new products have since been released and so aren't covered.

I would purchase this book for easy, fun, creative projects, but would purchase an additional book for info on the newest materials.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, February 19, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Precious Metal Clay : Creative Projects for the Beginner (Paperback)
I was disappointed with this book. As stated in one of the other reviews, some of the projects were too craftsy. At $32 an ounce, I'm not going to waste the clay by making little charms that hang off a lamp shade. Also, all the pictures are in black and white which I consider a major drawback. Creating with precious metal is a very visual and tactile medium. The book would be higher quality with color photos.

2.0 out of 5 stars very cursory view of this new medium, December 20, 2002

This review is from: Precious Metal Clay : Creative Projects for the Beginner (Paperback)
This book provides a VERY general look at this new medium. Very briefly discusses differences between PMC standard and PMC+ without mentioning PMC3. No good information about kiln parameters, the various forms of the clay (syringe, sheet, block etc) or any extensive discussion of tips/techniques. Actually, I found MUCH more infomation in 'Polymer Clay Explorations: Exploring New Techniques, New Materials' by Georgia Sargeant et al. If I'd flipped through this book in person at a store, I would have left it on the shelf.
