5.0 out of 5 stars enchanting, August 26, 2009
This review is from: Precious Platinum (Audio CD)
Asha Bhosle sounds great her voice is enchanting and is more sweeter at the age of 75 years also the compositions are great they are melodious and romantic never heard her sing such catchy sweet song like "Tum jo Miley" ; gazal "Jab Sham Ki" and teasy song "Tum Vada Toh" are great but "Main Asha Hoon" is really unique. The composer Mr.Nitin Shankar is very talented and has encompassed all the singing styles of Asha Bhosle in this album without monotony. We have never missed listening to Asha Bhosle. This unique album is really A very precious one.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Precious Platinum (2008) ... Asha Bhosle ... Times Square Records", November 1, 2008
This review is from: Precious Platinum (Audio CD)
Times Square Records presents "PRECIOUS PLATINUM - ASHA BHOSLE" (2008) -- One of the greatest playback singers in Bollywood history, Asha Bhosle has recorded over 10,000 songs for over 800 movies --- Although every class (ghazals, pop, etc) of song was within her vocal range, her specialty was in sensual songs or Western styled songs--she had an uncanny knack for making every actress for whom she sung, from Zeenat Aman to Urmila Matondkar, smolder on screen as never before.

Asha, like her sister, the legendary Lata Mangeshkar, was trained by her father, Dinanath Mangeshkar, in classical music, and it was only a matter of time before she too turned to playback singing --- Initially Asha's singing style was initially reminiscent of Dutt's, but she soon overcame that and evolved her own distinctive style --- Her voice possessed a lilting, versatile quality that could capture any song at any form or scale --- By the end of the 1960s, she was second only to her sister, and the two of them were the queens of Indian playback singing right through to the 1990s --- However, in spite of her incredible vocal range, she was getting typecast in singing sensual songs.

However, in 1981, the composer Khayyam revealed another, more lyrical quality to Asha's voice --- Their collaboration in the Urdu film Umrao Jaan (1981), where the songs were mostly poetry, reveal some of her finest songs --- And Ijaazat (1987), another such film, got her the National Award --- Today, unlike her sister, she has remained active in playback singing--she still makes actresses sizzle in songs, most notably in the films Rangeela (1995), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), and Taal (1999) --- She has also released several Indipop (Indian pop) music albums, and their success has reaffirmed Asha's --- Asha Bhosle is believed to have sung over 12,000 songs --- Though her sister, Lata Mangeshkar was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records during 1974-1991, for having sung the most songs in the world, reputed sources have introduced concerns to its veracity, claiming that the Guinness counts were exaggerated and Bhosle has recorded more songs than Mangeshka --- Bhosle herself pointed out that she has made the most recordings by any singer - 12,000 --- Recently, she was nominated for the prestigious Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World-Music Album --- Even at 75, there is no stopping Asha Bhosle (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

My son-in-law Inam Rehman (India), introduced my family and I to the culture of India through the films of his country --- Much of what I've seen is interesting and exciting ~ therefore when "PRECIOUS PLATINUM - ASHA BHOSLE" came my way I jumped at the chance to review it --- Of course the first Indian sound film came into being March 14, 1931 "Alam Ara" ~ since then we've seen thousands of films come out of India --- And Asha Bhosle has been a big part of it.

Great job by Times Square Records --- looking forward to more high quality titles from Times Square Records and the Silva Screen market --- order your copy now from Amazon or Silva plenty of copies available, stay tuned once again for top notch releases --- where they are experts in releasing treasures to the collector --- Asha Bhosle - The Queen of Bollywood turned 75 years young on September 8. 2008.
