Horrible Unreliable Expensive Piece of Junk,
By
This review is from: Dell Precision M6500 Business and Animators Laptop Computer, Intel Core i7-920 Processor (8MB L3 Cache, 1MB L2 Cache, 2.66GHz), 4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz (2 DIMMs), 320GB Hard Drive (7200 RPM), 1.0 GB NVIDIA Quadro FX 2800M Graphics, 17 IN UltraSharp WUXGA (1920x1200) RGB LED, 8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer writer, Windows 7 PRO 64-Bit, Dell Wireless 1510 802.11a/g/n Draft Mini Card, 2.0MP Webcam, Back-Lit Keyboard, Aluminum Back/Base (Personal Computers)
I purchased this laptop to use for my business in an environment where reliability is absolutely critical. Right out of the box, there were problems. The keyboard didn't work. The tech kept telling me to hit keys and wouldn't believe me when I said the keys weren't working. They actually had me re-seat the keyboard, but that didn't help.
I have Gold support, so they sent a tech to my house. I told him that it was hard to believe the laptop left Dell without any kind of QC, since the keyboard would have had to work for them to do QC. He replaced the keyboard and discovered that the original keyboard hadn't been plugged into the motherboard. This is quality control??? Then when he replaced it, I realized later that it wasn't seated properly and now clicks whenever I rest my wrist on it. About 2 weeks later, I turned on the computer and started getting errors indicating that the ProgramData folder was corrupted. No matter what the tech and I did, we continued to several of these errors. They have agreed to replace the system, but it will take 15 days. The trial for which I need the computer is only 10 days away, and I have a lot of data to load. I'm going to fight to get my money back on this piece of junk. I'm thoroughly unimpressed with Dell's customer support (although today's tech - Heather - is trying her best) and I will not buy another Dell. Years ago, we used to call them "Dells from Hell." They improved for awhile. But now, well, they are definitely "Dells from Hell".
