5.0 out of 5 stars NLP translated to the business world
Business means information processing. Unfortunately we don't communicate in the standardized way a computer does. Not two person have the same set of words or their meanings in their head. THerefore it's extremely importent to have accurate and detailed communication process and to know how to find the 'hidden', the unspoken of peaces. This book will help you with that.

This book is a mixed bag.

Dramatically improve the effectiveness of an organization and personal relationships. What results do you want? What information do you need? Cut through the entire information overflow to the heart of the matter. Ask the right questions. Make the right decision. The book makes this art of business communication an easily learnable skill. Must read!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on business communications - EVER!, December 13, 2007

(REAL NAME)
I attended one of John Grinder's NLP workshops many years ago in Toronto and thought NLP would have a great application in business. Sure enough, John and Michael came out with this book in 1980 that applies the NLP concept to the business world. This book should be compulsory reading in all business schools. This book teaches - by way of specific examples - managers how to get the best quality information on any situation so that they can make the right decision. Any person reading this book will see why there is so much misunderstanding and miscommunication in the business world.

I highly recommend this book.

This book is a mixed bag.

Essentially, the whole of this guide is based on applying the linguistic techniques of NLP, particularly those covered in The Structure of Magic (by Richard Bandler and John Grinder), and applying them to a business model which is supposed to help managers and decision makers solve problems both within their organizations and among people.

Unfortunately, the authors decided to forsake a solid overview of the system being discussed, and basically jumped right in to a long series of explanations of particular techniques and how to apply them in case studies without giving a good idea of where people were headed.

Each sub-state is divided into reoccurring start-finish patterns, making the whole experience quite dizzying. It feels to me as though the book kind of ends up talking itself into circles at some point, and it seems that some of the actors in the case studies agree.

If you want to learn how to make incredibly large problems appear much smaller, then this is probably a good guide to read (if you can get through it). If you try the methodology on everyday problems, it's completely useless. You'll end up making a gigantic mess of things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un-Muddling The Meta-Model, October 18, 2008

This review is from: Precision: A New Approach to Communication: How to Get the Information You Need to Get Results (Paperback)
If you take Richard Bandler's advice and challenge, in this order, Generalizations, Distortions and then Deletions, along with Universal Quantifiers and Modal Operators then the magic of language shimmers and dazzles with the addition of Precision. Somewhere to go with the Meta-Model.

My teacher Roger V. Lees was trained by Richard and taught us the material the way that Richard used it. When I learned from John Grinder he really strengthened the ability of my language usage by paring down the questions and allowing us to hold to a direction to eliminate extraneous material. All the while staying with the client in real time. Easily too!

4.0 out of 5 stars SESQUIPEDALIAN JEWEL, August 20, 2004

This review is from: Precision: A New Approach to Communication: How to Get the Information You Need to Get Results (Paperback)
A simple, straightforward, slightly sesquipedalian book on how to hear what questions to ask to get the information you need. Good discussions on the required discriminatory skill for determining information you need to know and information you need to not know to make your managerial decisions more effectively. It could have used drills for each section to properly achieve fluency in the skills presented.

I found the metaphors throughout the book a very nice touch.
