5.0 out of 5 stars A Book Every Serious Bowhunter Should Have, August 26, 2005
This review is from: Precision Bowhunting: A Year-Round Approach to Taking Mature Whitetails (Paperback)
This book and the Eberhart's other book "Bowhunting Pressured Whitetails" are the two best whitetail deer bowhunting books I have read - and I have read a lot of them. Most deer hunting books discuss tactics for hunting unpressured deer (i.e. large, privately managed farms or ranches with limited access or high-fence operations) that most hunters will simply never have the chance to hunt. This book is different from other hunting books in that the Eberhart's explain their year-round system for consistently taking mature whitetail bucks from pressured areas in their home state of Michigan. I must say again that the Eberthart's bowhunting books are the best I have read. In fact, I re-read parts of their books before each hunting season.

5.0 out of 5 stars another great book by John Eberhart, March 31, 2007
This review is from: Precision Bowhunting: A Year-Round Approach to Taking Mature Whitetails (Paperback)
This book walks through the whole year, what you need to be getting done now, what you need to be getting ready to do. Its all here, how, when, and where you should be hunting through out the season. It rehashes some of his other book " bowhunting pressured Whitetails" both are books I would recomend to any bowhunter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Whitetail Tactics that Work!, August 30, 2011

If you are like me you grew tired of hunting shows that show hunters passing up 150 inch deer! The concept is inconceivable for most hunters that hunt in pressured areas. Likewise the techniques and recommendations of those shows and magazines are typically confusing and ineffective for most hunters. Finally a guy takes a scientific approach to hunting high pressured land and combines a no nonsense approach with years of experience to write a how to guide that works! If you live in an area with medium - high hunting pressure consider this your hunting bible. I can't recommend it highly enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars One For The Library, March 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Precision Bowhunting: A Year-Round Approach to Taking Mature Whitetails (Paperback)
While reading this book I realized that this book is not for all bow hunters...at least until they are willing to put down their guard and listen. I came to this conclusion while discussing the book with a few fellow bow hunters. Certain topics I brought up during our discussion they found to be excessive or not necessary, or just plain wrong, while I could see the true value and necessity. So, here I thought they would be excited at what I had learned. Now these are not guys I hunt with, which is probably a good thing. I don't want them in any of my stands.
If you are going to commit to being a successful hunter, you need to put yourself in the best position possible. This book IS for the hunter that can be critical of their own hunting practices and experiences, compare them to what the authors are presenting, and align themselves to be a better hunter. This book is a must for the serious hunter who wants to challenge what they believe about hunting. This is a technical book that has plenty of first person accounts blended in to make it truly interesting. Yes, it has several pics of beautiful deer that were harvested, but they do not distract from the reading. I went back and looked at all the pics when I finished reading the book. This book will stay in my library and be shared with my three sons when the time is right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Precision Bow Hunting Review, January 3, 2007
This review is from: Precision Bowhunting: A Year-Round Approach to Taking Mature Whitetails (Paperback)
Excellent book. Easy to read, well organized, and insightful. No gimmicks or add-ons. Follow the straight forward practices to improve your odds. I used the knowledge for both bow and firearm hunting. I saw many more deer than in prior years. I purchased a copy for my son and a friend.

The finest book I've read on bowhunting deer.Looks past the run of the mill hunting methods and provides vital info on actual hunting conditions.John should have his own tv show.Far more than a sit in the woods and rattle every 5 minutes book.Get this book if you want to actually get serious about hunting.Covers scouting, setup, hunting methods and more.If you only want to get one of John's books make it this one.He basically expands on the first book's info in this one.I recommend reading both books though.Great reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for real-world bowhunting, December 2, 2009

This review is from: Precision Bowhunting: A Year-Round Approach to Taking Mature Whitetails (Paperback)
If youre a serious bowhunter that knows the basics for locating deer, this book will put all the pieces you already know together and you will have a complete grasp of what you should be looking for in your preseason scouting. Great read for anyone who hunts pressured areas; particularly public land. I grew up hunting west Michigan, where the hunting pressure is one of the highest in the country, and I was always able to put deer in my sights, but I feel that if I had read this book 10 years ago, Id probably have a few trophies on the wall by now.
A few minor complaints about this book though. One, the unrealistic number of stands to prep and have available to rotate to throughout the season. Eberhart says in the book that they prep up to 80 STAND SITES, and the Average Joe who has a family, a full time job, and primarily hunts public land just wont be able to have that many spots set up to hunt. I always tried to get 10 solid public land stand sites, and even that took a lot of effort! Also, not a huge fan of the Ambush Saddle that he swears by. Ive always used a Summit Viper climber and Summit Copperhead portable fixed-position stand that can quickly and quietly be moved from one location to another using a hanging bracket system, and Ive taken deer from both with a bow.
All in all, great read if you want to finely polish your bowhunting skill and put bucks in front of you!

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best bowhunting books you can buy!, February 4, 2009
This review is from: Precision Bowhunting: A Year-Round Approach to Taking Mature Whitetails (Paperback)
I can say without a doubt that this will be one of your favorite bowhunting informational books that you will ever buy. I read 6-10 whitetail hunting books per year and this is definitely one of the top two books i have ever read as far as real world hunting tactics and advice goes. This book made me a better hunter. If you follow the advice, you too will see improved sucess in the feild.
Unlike most other hunting books, Precision Bowhunting is authored for your average Joe hunter. It deals with hunting public lands and ways to capitalize on hunting with other hunters, rather than avoiding crowds altogether. It goes through the an entire yearly process as to what you should be doing at a specific time of season all year long to improve your odds of sucess.
Gun hunter or bowhunter you will find useful information in this book.
If you value your time in the woods and whitetail hunting in general, this is the book for you.

Chris and John have done it again. This is an incredible follow up to "bowhunting pressured whitetails". Their knowledge of the lore of the wood and the unique and creative take they have with hunting consistently shows their superior knowledge they are all too happy to share with those of you who are wise to purchase this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, a must read for serious deer hunters, September 11, 2007
This review is from: Precision Bowhunting: A Year-Round Approach to Taking Mature Whitetails (Paperback)
This book, without a doubt, is the finest book on deer hunting that I have ever read. As an avid reader, I have read a pile of books on deer hunting, most of which were the same information, recycled over and over again. The techniques and strategies in these books are just not applicable to hunting in my heavily pressured home state of South Carolina.
This book is full of fresh ideas that have challenged the way I have historically approached bowhunting. I would recommend this book to anyone, bowhunters and gunhunters alike. It is the most HONEST and PRACTICAL book on hunting mature deer that you will ever read. It will help you to rethink the way you hunt and give you more opportunities at big bucks. I cannot say enough good things about this book. If you live in a state or area where there is alot of stiff hunting pressure, you have got to read this book.
