5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased
This is a very good colander. Good for rice and pasta and no losses. I love it. Wish I'd had this years ago. Well worth the money.

3.0 out of 5 stars too big too shallow
I had an old aluminum colander that must be a 4-qt capacity, because everything I found in my search is too big (5 qt or larger) or too tall for my limited storage or too small (3-qt) to contain the pasta. The perforated metal goes up inside the Precision colander's rim, where it traps water. This means I have to leave it out to drip dry in my tiny little kitchen, instead...

5.0 out of 5 stars Precision Colarnder Review, September 6, 2009

After much debate with myself because of the price of this product, I finally decided to give it a try. I wish I had purchased it ages ago! This colander works so much better than my old one! It drains much faster and is soooo much easier to clean. Also fits into my smaller stockpot better for steaming food. Food, especially pasta, does not stick in the drain holes. A quick swipe with a soapy sponge and it is clean! Well worth the money.

I had an old aluminum colander that must be a 4-qt capacity, because everything I found in my search is too big (5 qt or larger) or too tall for my limited storage or too small (3-qt) to contain the pasta. The perforated metal goes up inside the Precision colander's rim, where it traps water. This means I have to leave it out to drip dry in my tiny little kitchen, instead of wiping it off and putting it away when finished. It drains well, which is a colander's main function, but it's a bit hard to clean.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5Qt Colander works great, April 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I like to cook my brown rice in extra water, then drain like pasta. With my old colander, half of the rice ended up in the sink. This colander works great and the holes are small enough so nothing gets through. I wasn't sure whether to get the 5qt or 3qt size, and am so glad I got the 5qt. It's just right, and not too large.

I especially like that the bottom has holes not covered up by the base, as I've seen with other models. The surface is smooth, and does not cut or shred my dishrag. Even though the price seemed a bit high, I know I'll be happy with this colander for years and am glad I purchased a quality product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you, America's Test Kitchen!, December 21, 2011
This review is from: Precision Pierced Stainless Steel Colander 3 Qt
I took the recommendation of America's Test Kitchen when purchasing this collander and I am very happy with it.

PROS:

I does a wonderful job of straining items.
It is easy to clean, just pop it in the dishwaswher.
The edges are rolled so you won't cut yourself.
I use it for straining uncooked rice, fruits and vegetables, etc.
The base is very sturdy.
The handles are nice and sturdy.
I use it daily with pleasure.
It fits nicely in my kitchen drawer.

CONS:

A few grains of rice might slip past, but I typical let the water drain into a pot or a bowl, so I can catch those escapees.

I have had some discoloration, but as long as it works, I won't complain.

This was a great call on the part of ATK.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential kitchen item, March 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I already owned one of these colanders and bought this one as a gift. Originally I ordered mine because I needed a colander that could drain orzo without losing half of the pasta through the holes. Not only does this stainless steel colander fit the bill for orzo, it is also a dream to clean. The wide bowl accommodates pasta as well as berries and vegetables. Customer service for this product is also very good. The second colander had a manufacturing flaw; my phone call for an exchange was handled very professionally and to my entire satisfaction.

Yes, I followed up on this because of a Cook's Illustrated review and have not been disappointed. It hangs from a hook right over my sink so I pull it down for washing fruits and draining pastas all the time. I got the 3 qt. size for a potato recipe that called for using it inside a 5 qt. pot and it fits just fine. My only word of caution is that when I use this little strainer to rinse rice, some of the rice will get caught in the holes, causing a little waste.

5.0 out of 5 stars Precision Pierced Precision, December 10, 2009
I got an RSVP Precision Pierced Colander a few days ago. It is well very made. Contrary to a previous Review, I found that the Both the Base and the Handles are attached solidly to the Bowl. The base is a little wider than I prefer but will suffice. I feel it is a good investment in a Colander and Highly reccomend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Holes too big to strain rice, January 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Precision Pierced Stainless Steel Colander 3 Qt
This is a good quality item but I specifically bought it because I did not have a colander that had holes small enough to rinse rice. I read several reviews that claimed it was good for rinsing rice but quite a big of rice fell through the holes. It would be great for larger items but I returned it.
