I am not a diabetic. I am on the Ketogenic Diet which also requires the testing of ketones. However, on KD, ketones are tested to insure they are high enough to 'do the desired job'. I got these strips as a comparison for my urinary ketone testing. However, I discovered that urinary ketone strips measure one type of acetones and the blood ketone strips measure another type. Therefore, even when my urinary ketones were moderate for 1/2 a day, my blood ketones measured only .2! Although I cannot be certain, I suspect that the blood ketone strips measure ketones made from poly-unsaturated fat as most of my fat comes from mono-unsaturated fat (olive oil) and saturated fat (palm shortning, dairy, and meat).

However, the monitor and strips were easy to use...although the strips were very expensive. In my case, I learned that I was better off just using the urinary ketostix which I can get at a great price through [...]
