Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I had never used an elliptical trainer before, not being a gym rat, only stationary bikes, treadmills and Nordic Trak machines. This machine has a heart rate monitor through touch sensitive grips and is programmable for 8 different programs during which the machine automatically changes the pitch of the incline and the resistance. There are two user positions and a guest position. The monitor indicates time spent, or remaining, distance traveled, and calories expended, based on one's weight. There is a water bottle holder and a magazine holder. One small quibble: The place on which to rest a magazine or book is a shelf between the hand grips but using it blocks the read-out.
The machine arrived very well packaged. I had free assembly provided so a technician installed it. I watched the assembly and it does not appear difficult to do, taking about one half hour. The technician was a former Precor dealer and, thus, very knowledgeable about Precor products. He told me that this model is not manufactured in the U.S., as are the commercial models, but is built in Taiwan, which I cannot confirm. Nevertheless, he was very impressed with the build quality. As am I, it has substantial components and quality bearings, nothing cheap or flimsy about it. Very smooth and quiet running. It is 25" wide and about 72" long. My only concern is the spacing of the foot platforms. I stand, run and cross country ski with my feet closer together than the stance provided by the platforms. In other words, I have to stand on the platforms with my feet pressed against the inner edges. Obviously, comfort "running" on the machine is essential for one to continue to use it and I was not completely comfortable, initially. After some time with it, the machine became easy to use but it does not replicate my natural movement of walking, running or cross-country skiing. Anyone over 6'2" should definitely try out the machine before purchasing as the handles may be too low and the stride too short to be comfortable. This is a product that I do not believe should be purchased without trying it first.

I love my Precor EFX 5.25 Elliptical. This machine provides for a great workout from the privacy of my own home. There has been a slight clicking noise that developed over time, but it comes and goes. Also, we just moved and I haven't tried it out since then, since I'm 7 months pregnant, but I'm really looking forward to using it to lose all this baby weight. I did notice that I had to change the height settings to balance it after moving, so I'm hoping this hasn't affected its mechanics.
I have owned a few other exercise machines, and this one is by far the best.

I recommend buying from a local company. Most will match Amazons price and then provide you with the type of service and experience you should expect when you pay 3k!
