5.0 out of 5 stars Almost gym-quality, January 29, 2009
This review is from: Precor EFX 5.17i Elliptical Fitness Crosstrainer [Discontinued] (Sports)
I bought the Precor 5.17i. on sale from Sport Chalet for $2,000 plus tax. It is very smooth and quiet. It is lacking a hand-grip pulse monitor, but it does work with chest-strap pulse monitors.
I tried other brands that were cheaper, but they felt cheap and wobbly. The Precor machines are solid and stable.
Overall, I am very happy with the 5.17i.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid machine, October 3, 2009

I have had mine for a number of years. It gets daily, hard use from both myself and my children.

The machine is smooth, solid, and always performs well.

I originally bought it because I used a Precor at a health club for several years. The health club had several other elliptical makes; I preferred the Precors. The differences between this model and the club model are not all that great, certainly not worth paying more money for. For example, this model has a painted steel front ramp on which the wheels roll up and down; the next model up has an aluminum ramp; both ramps do the same job well.

As part of the deal, I received a heart monitor that fits over my chest. The monitor works fine, but I do not use it much.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than most home elliptical machines, July 23, 2008
I purchased this elliptical machine brand new, a few years ago, to alternate with running. I have had other elliptical machines; however, this allows users to obtain a high level of perceived exertion when kept at a high resistance, 15 or 16, out of 20. The ability to adjust incline, benefits all muscles in the lower body, focusing on a few at a time if necessary. It is an added bonus if you do not hang onto the handle bars, giving you the ability to also use your inner core muscles for balance. Yes it is expensive, but if you are one who really works out hard and consistently, it is worth the price.

My husband and I love this elliptical. We were familiar with this model from our health club and find it even more appealing now that it's in our own home! So easy to assemble, we were using it shortly after it arrived. We are looking to add other Precor products to our home gym.

This is awesome, feels just like the ones at the Gyms! Worth the price, we've had it for 1.5 years with no problems, sometimes you might just have to use a little WD-40. Smooth as can be! It just doesn't tell you how far you have gone or the heart rate monitor, the other thing I don't like is that it rotates through all the numbers and you don't have the option to stay at one, but you can manually rotate it also to the one you want. Great programs on it as well! I only wanted a precor and I'm glad this one was out there!

My husband also uses it and loves it and he's 6'2" I know the newer ones come with adjustable stride lengths, but he's never complained and I wouldn't pay more!

We bought this from Amazon New for $1,988, with a 10 year warranty! in Dec 2009

5.0 out of 5 stars It's great!, October 11, 2011
This review is from: Precor EFX 5.17i Elliptical Fitness Crosstrainer [Discontinued] (Sports)
I purchased this elliptical for my basement because I wanted to be able to work out at odd hours. The elliptical is not as new as the ones you would come across in a gym, but still efficient. I combine arm weights and kick up the resistance in order to get a full, intense workout. My only issues were the shipping process and getting it into my basement. However, it does come apart and came be moved in 2 pieces. When the elliptical was delivered to my house there was only the driver and me to move it into my house. We were lucky to even get it onto my lawn. Other than that I have had no problems with it.
