5.0 out of 5 stars Precor 9.27, July 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Precor 9.27 Treadmill (Sports)
The unit is exactly what was ordered. It is neither the most expensive nor the least expensive one. The difference in price comes from the breadth of computer functions. As far as I am concern we have all necessary functions for our workout. It was easy to assemble, it works good. It is considerably quieter and smoother than the unit it has replaced.

Great! We have an older Precor treadmill and love the new improvements on this one. Highly recommend it. Assembly is easy. You will need 2 people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, solid unit. You can RUN on it, August 28, 2011
This review is from: Precor 9.27 Treadmill (Sports)
Despite the popularity of ellipticals, which do take the stress of joints, I prefer to use a treadmill for cardio exercise. The motion of walking, whether on an incline or level, is the most natural to me as I am a hearty walker on vacations.

There are 10 workout programs. So you can mix inclines, speeds, and do intervals. Mostly, however, do my own intervals, mixing a minute of running with minutes of walking, because I need to up the heart rate but I should not run for long on my joints.

The console is nothing fancy and easy to read, shows "calories burned" which I ignore--even though you can make it more by putting in your weight and age. You can measure your heart rate with the simple hand grips. In the fat-burning zone? Good. Need to up the work? Speed up with a touch of a button. It has a reading rack and a water bottle holder, but I find reading difficult on the treadmill (bifocals) so I watch a DVD or TV instead. Or listen to some bouncy music.

Once you set up your fave routine, you can start it up with one button touch. That's handy. I use the treadmill also to warm up for weights and kettlebells--for me, walking and jogging get the joints moving and the blood into the muscles. If you like to walk and you have indifferent weather, this is a nice addition to the home gym. For flooring reasons, mine is in the basement along with the iron stuff. Clang

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This treadmill replaces a fairly similar class of treadmill by a different manufacturer I purchased in 2004 for about $3000.

The Precor arrived in a large box, and as specified, weighs 330 lbs. I was glad to have the shipper actually bring it into my garage where it would live, as I have moved my last treadmill once and nearly broke my arm taking off the truck even with another person helping.

The instructions specify an assistant for assembly, but I was able to handle it alone since I didn't have to move it much - I just cut the box off around the treadmill and slid the bottom of the box out.

The only time a second person would have been really appreciated is step 1, where the main supports are installed, but you can hold them in place with one hand while securing it with one bolt to get it in place without much of a hassle. After the two supports are in place, which is simple but a little awkward alone, it just gets faster and easier from there on.

The first time I turned it on was with a GFI outlet - that didn't work and it threw the breaker every time. A non-GFI outlet worked fine.

As for features, they are pretty basic and similar to my old treadmill - programs, manual, settings for 2 users, heart rate monitor via grips and also chest strap, which is a nice feature.

As for build, its as solid and sturdy as you would expect for a treadmill in this price, maybe a little better.

As for packaging, I was VERY concerned when I opened the box and found loose hardware in the box - there are several individual bags of hardware, and in my box, many had been sliced open and taped together, and two had become untaped and spilled their contents. As it turned out, I was only missing a single nonessential washer, but it was frustrating to find the hardware packaged this way.

I enjoy using this treadmill much better than my old one - its stable, much better looking, less monstrous, and as it turns out, there is a lip on the sensor panel which holds my iPad 2 in a case in a perfect spot for viewing while I am using the treadmill, which is huge.

I do one have one concern about this treadmill, and that is a bit of slip I've encountered once in a while - it seems to happen more when I walk too close too the front. There are instructions for aligning the belt left and right but not sure about tightening, may need to contact customer support - its not a big problem though.

The last treadmill I had installed by a local dealer, but it cost much more than the $1999 Precor. For the price and build quality this treadmill is a solid value, but when it comes to a treadmill, there is something to be said about having it locally purchased and installed if you aren't comfortable setting it up and adjusting it yourself.
