7 Comic Series Collected in One,
By
This review is from: Predator Omnibus Volume 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
If you always been wondering about the Predators, look no further than this omnibus. You get the entire comic series: "Predator: Concrete Jungle" , Predator: Cold War, Dark River, Rite of Passage, Pride at Nghasa, Bloody Sands of Time, and Blood Feud.
Concrete Jungle is a sequel to the movie "Predator" about the brother of the hero(from the movie) fighting and finding the truth. Cold War follows the brother's fight once again with the Predators in Russia's territory. Dark River is also another story dealing with the brother going to the jungle fighting with the Predators. Rite of Passage is about an African tribesman first fight to the death with a Predator. Pride at Nghasa deal with Copeland outwitting the predator in Africa. Bloody Sands of Time is about how often the Predators visited Earth during the war-times in various countries. Blood Feud deal with a shogun in modern USA fighting with a Predator who may had slaughter his comrades in the past.

Nice collection!,
This review is from: Predator Omnibus Volume 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
This is a really interesting collection of Predator comics, the stories tha you'll find in it are:
- Concrete Jungle: The first Predator comic ever, it was also a great inspiration for the Predator 2 movie, you'll note some of the similiarities between the comic and the movie, but it doesn't mean the stories are the same, quite the opositte. In this comic you'll meet Dutch's brother, also, General Philips from the first movie is back in this comic, it's a very nice comic, the artwork is terrific and the Predators are amazing. Guess you'll have to read it to know how good it is. A really interesting comic. - Cold War: Schafer and General Philips are back in this sequel, this time we leave New York and the jungles of South America to find Predators in Russia! Both Russian and American governament are interested in stealing the Predator's tecnology. Again, an interesting comic that worth the read. - Dark River: The final and less interesting comic that features Schaefer and Philips, it's not bad, but it's just not as good as the previous two. We're back to the jungles of South America, were the Predator that Schaefer believed he has killed in the past is actually alive, and very mad. I didn't like the fact that this Predator has gone crazy and doesn't follow the Predator's rules. And in the end, they didn't tell us what happened do Dutch, wich is very disapponting. - Rite of Passage: A small comic that features an african fighting a Predator who has murdered he's entire tribe. I find it somewath strange that the guy manage to defeat the Predator with that knife.. - Pride at Nghaasha: Very good comic, nice artwork and nice story. We have a Predator in Africa again, but this comic is much better then the previous one. - The Bloody Sands of Time: Excelent! Deals with Predators in the trenches at the Great War, very interesting, especially if you like history as I do. - Blood Feud: The Worst comic in the Omnibus, very boring and confuse. And what a terrible excuse for a Predator comic... I mean... it's to.. i don't know, weird. The Omnibus is very good, i recomend it to you if you're a Predator fan who wants to enter the Predator's universe beyond the movies.

For 17 dollars you get over 400 Pages Worth Of Predator!,
This review is from: Predator Omnibus Volume 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
The stories in the book aren't anything "Special" As some might say but they are extremely entertaining. If you seen the first movie with Dutch as the main character you'll get to know his brother. I won't spoil anymore but the fight between him and Predators is quite entertaining and for years ago the art is quite good.
For this price you get so much is worth it. This is for both comic fans and predator fans alike!

A great collection...,
By John S. Milas (Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Predator Omnibus Volume 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
Out of AvP, Predator, and Aliens omnibus volume 1, AvP is probably the best with Predator a close second. Predator is a lot more consistent than Aliens #1, which is a good book, but has some stupid lazy editing problems.
Concrete Jungle 4/5 Concrete Jungle is pretty much Predator 2 before Predator 2 went to theatres. It's got a lot of things in it that were used in the movie, though it takes place in New York. Mark Verheiden's whitty writing moves the story along well, and the characters like Det. Schaefer, Rasche, and General Phillips are all interesting and memorable, especially Rasche(sp?) who is basically the designated comic relief. Concrete Jungle is a great Predator comic, very true to the first film, though the ending gets a little too War of the Worlds in scale, and the way it ends is a little anti-climactic. The Predators just leave! Cold War 3/5 Cold War is decent. It reduces the amount of time Schaefer's former partner Rasche has, which makes things a little less light hearted than they previously were. This story is more political, and it's about...the Cold War, what else? General Phillips makes a return and ends up being more of a villain than he was the first time, constantly using Schaefer by telling him he'll give him information about his brother Dutch (from the first movie). There is a brief reference to Big Game, which was released before this but appears in Volume 2. And a welcome addition is that of a female lead character, which is somewhat refreshing after the first story. Dark River 4/5 Dark River is probably the best of the first three comics in the Schaefer trilogy, but it doesn't have Rasche at all! These are all written by Verheiden, and I'd like to know what he was thinking when he failed to include that character, who really made Cold War half way decent. Without him, it would've sucked. Dark River has a rather interesting plot. A man claiming to be one of the helicopter pilots at the end of the first film runs into Schaefer, who takes him to South America to search for Dutch. Unfortunately, the main characters run into a Predator which Schaefer thought he'd killed in Concrete Jungle, but turns out is still alive. It's going on a psycho killing rampage in the jungle and has already eliminated two military teams. General Phillips comes in towards the end again and we learn how much more of a jerk he really is. The story ends inconclusively, begging for another sequel. Rite of Passage 2/5 Rite of Passage is rather pointless. I mean, it's a good idea, but it's just not really that satisfying. It's a total dialogue-less short featuring a tribal warrior hunting his prey, when a Predator lands and tries to hunt him. A short little fight ensues. The Pride at Nghasa 4/5 This is actually a pretty good one. In the 1930's, a Predator stalks a British colony and starts killing the colonists and some of the workers in Africa. A famous hunter is called in to help figure out what is going on, but the Predator appears and kills everyone, except for the narrator who attempts to lead the Predator through the perilous jungle, where it is attacked numerous times by various animals until it becomes fatigued. The Bloody Sands of Time 4/5 This comic is a little weird, but it's very good. The coloring is a little too flamboyant for something that takes place mostly during WWI, but whatever. The main character is also a little bizarre, but as it wraps up, the story falls into place very nicely and this ends up being one of the better entries in the volume. Blood Feud 1/5 Wow, this has got to be one of the worst told stories in all of Predator comic history (other than DotS). It's just so boring and invites no interest in the plot at all. If it was told from the perspective of samurai fighting Predators, it would've been pretty cool. Instead, it's about a blind guy who has flashbacks about fighting Predators when he was apparently a samurai hundreds of years ago until the Predator attacks him and his girlfriend. It just sucks. Well, folks that's Predator Omnibus Vol. 1. It's definitely worth the buy. The "bad" stories on here don't outweigh the good like in AvP Vol. 2, and the good stories are definitely good. Concrete Jungle and Dark River give this book value, but Nghasa and Bloody Sands of Time are great reads as well. Recommended to Predator fans, and also casual comic readers. Enjoy.

This review is from: Predator Omnibus Volume 1 (v. 1) (Paperback)
This is a comprehensive collection of the first series of Predator comics. It probably is not the best book to start with if you're trying to jump into the canon. I say that because the first part of the book is intolerable, whereas the second, less voluminous part, does its best to redeem the mythos that the first half tried so hard to taint. My problem is that the first half of the omnibus is a series of stories starring Detective Schaffer, Dutch's brother (see original movie). This relationship serves no real purpose, at least in this book, other than to give the extremely wooden protagonist a reason to get into recurrent entanglements with the Predators. The contrivances are one thing, but the real problem is the Schaffer character. He is so hard and emotionless to the point of total unbelievability that it's offensive to the reader. There doesn't even seem to be a real reason his character is shaded this way. He is a hulking, brutish yet, in contradiction, refined cop who does whatever he wants without thought of the consequences. He never shows an ounce of humanity and solves every problem, whatever the scale, with excessive violence. *Note that I'm not prudish when it comes to violence or language, rather I feel its employment should have a logical motivation within the story. Another HUGE problem is that Schaffer uses enough tongue-and-cheek one-liners to make Peter Parker seem like a mute. Seriously, it happens in almost every cell Schaffer is featured in, and there are A LOT--too many. When it comes to some comics cheese can be applied, but shaved off a grater. In PO the writer crushes the story with a giant wheel of cheddar. The only thing I can say I took from the first half of the book is a list of cliches to avoid in my own writing, which can be important. The second half was much better--believable characters, interesting stories--very enjoyable. If only the bulk of the book was more like this. I may go for the second omnibus if the summary abstains from any mention of the detestable Detective Schaffer.

Hard to put down, and a good read, great story, leaves you disappointed at the end that the comic is over and you want to reach out and grab the next in the series.

IM so glad they came out with something like this! For the amount of comics that are inside, its a definitely a great buy! Some of the stuff is a bit far fetched, but then again you are reading some one else's ideas on this wide world, got to have a open mind! So its great :)

Terrible art. Terrible characterization. Terrible writing. Even for a comic book. Even for the time it was written in. Awful.
