This review is from: Predator Sideshow Collectibles Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece She-Predator Machiko (Toy)
I should start off by point out that this figure is for the most part anatomically correct and certainly isn't for children. Its a collectible and not a toy.

Few people who aren't fans of the series and comics will even know who Machiko is, but she was a key character in one of the Alien vs Preditors comics. Hot Toys has managed to catch her likeness very well, she look feminine but also some you don't want to mess with. Too many 1/6 female figures are more like Barbies, that isn't the case with Machiko. For the most part she is very like her comic counterpart. There were a few issues including the tattoo not matching what is in the comics, but most people will be able to look past that.

She comes with her armor, two weapons and a shield made from an alien's head. There is some assembly required, not for the body itself but to put the armor so that is something to keep in mind. All in all I think this is a great figure with even more possibility to customizers to use. A great figure for fans of 1/6 scale figures and those who love the Predator versus Alien series.

I began collecting action toys over 20 years ago: firstly 'G.I. Joe' (Action Man) I remember from my youth. I did also many resin figures in large scale and, as I'm keen in Sci-Fi and cinema characters, I like to collect also related figures: I think that 'Machiko' is amongst the best female figure available and it is not a 'toy' but a 'sculpture' and 'poseable' it is only a 'bonus'. It is almost 'sold out' and I beg a lot to find one: now it stay together with 'Dutch' and 'Billy Sole' from the movie 'Predator' ... but it was not in the film but only in the mind of a japanese comics maker!

If you don't know who the character is or never read the Dark Horse comics, have seen the movie AVP, you may not realize how bad they truly were until you see Machiko here in her predator Hunter outfit. If you have not read them or seen the movies or even if you have, me telling you small bits of background will not make the stories any less interesting (I am speaking of the comics) nor ruin any plots...we all know how it goes and if you haven't... Predator 2, 1997 people!

General thoughts & background: Most people know how the Predator world works, with young new predators being trained in a hunt, if they succeed, they get blooded by the Alien's blood, with the symbol of their Hunt Master or trainer. It is an honor and simple right of passage that is the heart of the Hunter's society. The caste system works as a strong survive, the weak serve, honor in battle can move you to a higher status if you can even be worthy of the hunt. We also know how the Predators will hunt many of the deadliest species in the galaxy, but the Aliens and humans have become something more than a passing interest, because of the repeated hunts that occur with both species. In both cases, the unpredictability of humans and the Aliens is what makes them such good sport.
Intro:
We see the character Machiko twice. Once as a corporate hard-ass who has taken over for the past six months on a cattle raising community on a far off planet. Next we see her is when she has chosen to go with the Predators and hunt with them and she has been doing so for some time now living on their ship.

As stated in another review, there are simple differences from the comic such as the blooding scar; it was on the center of her forehead, not her cheek...the cheek was from the terrible movie, AND the symbol is inaccurate as it was lightning bolt-like; body, too athletic and lean, Machiko looked very petite and more like a graceful gymnast or ballerina than the lean runner body type shown here; the face is off as well, having a more european look instead of Japanese, which Machiko Noguchi was in the comic. These aside, she is still a masterpiece action figure.

Included extras:

Well made and highly detailed, the mesh in the Predator world is not just decorative but is actually very high tech, comfort clothing which allows the predators to feel comfortable in any environment, the garter-like leg straps? I don't recall these but they do add some style although they don't compare to the shin guards and plates she wears. The telescoping spear, wrist baldes are top notch, and she looks amazing when fully geared up. I am glad they included the alien skull shield she carries, as she had them from her hunting days on Ryushi. I can not think of anything more that could have made this better except the Queen head.

Overall, I can not say enough about how cool and amazing this figure is and how badly I wanted it when I first saw it. I picked it up for under one fifty shipped but would pay much more knowing how cool she turned out.

If you are a fan of Machiko...Save up, beg, borrow or something else, but get it!

Fan of AVP...you will want to buy it!

Casual fan or never heard of this before...why am I including this one...(note: if you see this and become interested, you fall into the first two categories...)
