Alarmist,
This review is from: Predators and Child Molesters: What Every Parent Needs to Know to Keep Kids Safe (Paperback)
I can appreciate that the author was a prosecutor in the sex crimes division of a major city. Still, her book has an alarmist tone that risks neglecting reality. I am a parent of two small kids and some of the information in the book was insightful but for the most part, this book did not add much to what parents already know from common sense. However, what it will do is try to freak out parents.

Robin Sax looks at the situation through the eyes of an expert and a parent--and then re-examines the landscape from the perspective of a potential predator, exposing hidden vulnerabilities that our children at risk for exploitation.
The book is comprehensive and specific. If your a parent, grandparent, teacher, social worker, day care provider, this book is a "must own" in every library, child center and home across the country.

This review is from: Predators and Child Molesters: What Every Parent Needs to Know to Keep Kids Safe (Paperback)
As a 29-year law enforcement veteran with 21 years investigating child abuse cases, I can't recommend this book highly enough. Every parent, everyone who has contact with children needs to read this book. Robin has made a difficult and taboo subject easy for everyone to understand. She has removed the fears and hesitation that parents might have when considering whether or not to report child abuse. She spells out the difficulties in prosecuting these types of cases, but also shows the benefits of the process. Robin is an outstanding District Attorney, advocate for children and a great person. This is a difficult subject to deal with, but the knowledge you'll gain to help you protect children is invaluable.

Definitive Guide for Parents,
By
This review is from: Predators and Child Molesters: What Every Parent Needs to Know to Keep Kids Safe (Paperback)
This book answers every question you ever thought of about how to protect your kids and many you never thought to ask. Instead of using scare tactics, Ms. Sax offers balanced, practical advice in techniques and strategies that will actually work in the real world. For parents who are not sure how to walk the line between being too intrusive or too permissive, Ms. Sax certainly can lead the way. When it comes to difficult decisions like whether to allow sleepovers, how to choose babysitters or nannies, learning why children don't disclose abuse, and what to do if they do, Ms. Sax provides clear and understandable chapters. I highly recommend this book to parents and to those who educate parents on child safety.

Predators and Child Molesters,
By Concerned Parent (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Predators and Child Molesters: What Every Parent Needs to Know to Keep Kids Safe (Paperback)
This book is the clearest, most concise book I've ever read on the subject. This is information from someone who has been "in the trenches" and therefore is practical and of true value in real life situations. I recommend this book highly to anyone with children so that they can do everything they can do to keep their children safe!

Fearmongering and lacking objectivity,
This review is from: Predators and Child Molesters: What Every Parent Needs to Know to Keep Kids Safe (Paperback)
After reading a recent article written by this author, I decided to quick read her book. Lets just say it was written with the DA mentality, which clouds her objectivity and she suggest we give up constitutional rights that safeguard us from the real possibility of Nifong-esque false allegations. Thus what we get is more of the stories that fuel our collective fear and paranoia about sex crimes and offenders. While the "sex offender courts" are a good (but not a Sax original) idea, I cringe at her notion to eliminate many rights afforded the accused, such as the ban on "double jeopardy" and the right to confront witnesses face to face. I've seen far better and more objective reasoning from actual crime victims.
