4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books by missed author Harold Robbins
When I discovered the books by Harold Robbins I joined a world unlike any other I've seen till then. The world of bussiness, fame, fortune, losing everything, the dealing with the defeat, sex, sex, sex. At first sight, I was mesmerized and shocked with such books. Reading them I learned things I'd never even imagined. And when I started reading THE PREDATORS, I...

1.0 out of 5 stars This was just awful...
I've read other books by Robbins and the Predators was just awful! Not only was this book pointless, but the ending was SO DISAPPOINTING that I couldn't believe that it got published in the 1st place!!!! The only reason I gave this even 1 star was that the beginning of the book was interesting. Which is why I was so disappointed in the final product...

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books by missed author Harold Robbins, February 5, 2000
This review is from: The Predators (Hardcover)
When I discovered the books by Harold Robbins I joined a world unlike any other I've seen till then. The world of bussiness, fame, fortune, losing everything, the dealing with the defeat, sex, sex, sex. At first sight, I was mesmerized and shocked with such books. Reading them I learned things I'd never even imagined. And when I started reading THE PREDATORS, I knew the real Harold Robbins. It's a book full of emotions, feelings and the odds of these things. Of course, with more sex than in any other of his books. If you like that kind of books, read this one. THE PREDATORS is the kind of book you should read on a Sunday afternoon, when you have time to enjoy yourself and have nothing much else to do except have fun. Nothing's perfect, and this book is not, 'cause the end lacks a little in criativity. But who cares when all your main reason to read these books is have fun?

3.0 out of 5 stars A Crude Stew of Sex & Money, November 6, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Predators (Hardcover)
Within the first few pages of Harold Robbins's latest and final novel -- completed shortly before his death -- his hero, Jerry Cooper, has lost both parents in a car wreck and has had a steamy sexual encounter with a girl downstairs.

The Predators keeps up this breathless pace, tracking Cooper from Manhattan, where he works for his uncle, a small-time crook, to Paris during World War II. There, Cooper gets involved with a Corsican gangster who traffics in smuggled cars. Robbins doesn't waste time on niceties of style or subtleties of characterization as he follows Cooper's rise to power and respect-ability.

There's something quaintly old-fashioned about this no-frills potboiler and something distasteful in its tired, one-dimensional takes on homosexuals, African-Americans and endlessly compliant women.

5.0 out of 5 stars OK for entertainment, April 4, 1999

If you want a book to read when relaxing, this is it. Yeah it's trashy but when you're resting, who would really want to look at the encyclopedias to research for complicated stuff?

1.0 out of 5 stars a hollow going-nowhere loud-thunders-no-rain porn-movie like novel, September 25, 2009
By

don't know what's the purpose of writing this porn movie-like novel. so many meaningless intercourse scenes that got absolutely nothing to do with the storyline. using wii background just to describe how a bunch of lowlifes ripping off uncle sam's jeeps and selling to the postwar european black market. you call this kind of people predators? the writing and storyline was typical h.robins style, but again, i have to ask his spirit (if it really exists): what's the purpose of writing this pointless novel?

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money, February 19, 2009
I made it through about three chapters of this book and just got tired of all the sex in the book. I don't mind a couple steamy scenes or whatever but this was so laden with sex scenes you couldn't concentrate on the story. Seemed like every dude had two or three girls going at a time and their wives never caught on. When they weren't having sex they talked about sex.
The sex parts weren't even written well. They were stupid and didn't even fit the story.
After reading part of this book I won't be wasting my time with this joker again. I might as well get a penthouse and a readers digest and read a paragraph from a readers digest, browse/read sixteen pages in the penthouse, another paragraph fron the digest .....
Be more interesting and likely have a more fulfilling plot.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, April 16, 2004
By A Customer
As soon as I saw that this book was copyrighted by "the estate" of Harold Robbins, I knew I was in trouble. Like some other reviewers, I also doubt very much that Robbins actually wrote this one. It was terribly disappointing. Read his earlier stuff, but skip this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars An Incredibly Disapointing Book From a Great Author!, March 27, 2004
By
This was possibly one of the worst-written books I have ever read. I hate to not finish a book, and that is the only thing that kept me with this one. I have read some outstanding books from Mr. Robbins, and I highly doubt that he himself wrote this one. Never once did I feel that I connected with any of the characters; they weren't even very likable. The writing style is flat and unnatural, and the plot (or lack thereof) drags along with no apparent focus. I would definetly recommend any of Mr. Robbins's books before this one!

1.0 out of 5 stars Pure Trash, April 7, 1999
By A Customer
I loved the Carpetbaggers and was astonished by this book. The storyline and characters are weak, it doesn't read well at all, and as far as I am concerned -- it is pure porn!

1.0 out of 5 stars Angry enough to write this review!, April 6, 1999
This review is from: The Predators (Hardcover)
A MASSIVE TRAVESTY! Bought the book on strength of author's name. If H.Robbins wrote this book (I doubt it) he was in a semi comatose state with a limited multiple choice plotline/dialogue clipboard. I enjoyed Stiletto,The Carpetbaggers & The Adventurers. I'm not a critical reader; merely looking for novelty and action. I believe book was published for minimal money return on strength of author's name; absolutely NO redeeming value. Book is excellent argument for creating a lower rating than one star!
