My 8 year old son had every intention of using his Christmas money to buy a new toy. After he looked through Predators, he changed his mind and said something I never thought I'd hear: "Mom, this book is better than a toy!" He's not an avid reader, but the illustrations are so vivid and realistic, they drew him in. Then the interesting and unusual facts about different predators (including some you don't think of as being in the predator category, like flesh eating plants and certain carnivorous insects) kept him reading page after page. The glossary in the back is helpful as well for building vocabulary. Just a note: if you have a very young child or one who is easily upset, it almost goes without saying this book might not be for them since the drawings are intense and there are even a few photos of predators in action. (I'm thinking of one small photo of a crocodile killing a kangaroo that my youngest child would probably not like seeing AT ALL!)This was a good book for my reluctant reader, and there's so much to see and read he keeps going back to the book over and over again.

We read this with children and both enjoyed it. Good conversation ensued.

This book series is amazing! My boys (ages 8 and 10) can't get enough of these books. They love to share the interesting facts they find in each book, and they spend hours pouring over each one. The pictures are vivid and interesting and the books are absolutely beautiful. These are not just for kids, either. Every time I pass the book shelf I can't help but pick one up and read it.
